Can I extend my french work visa by visiting a non-schengen country?

Hi! I currently have a work visa for france which will end in july...I heard that if I visit a non-schengen country towards the end of my visa, I can re-enter france and stay for 3 more months. Does anyone have any insight on this?? Thanks!

I just read a thread in another forum about exactly the same topic, so I've linked to that below. I would of course recommend you ask a local authority about your situation, but the one thing I did want to point out is that the Schengen rule doesn't "reset" every time you go to a non-Schengen country. You don't get a new bunch of 90 days on a tourist visa for every day you spend somewhere else. It's 90 days per 180 days, so a short visit to a non-Schengen country just adds that short stay to your allotment as a tourist.

What I don't know is how France specificially treats the transition from working visa to tourist/Schengen visitor.
