What defines quality acting in a movie/tv show? Perhaps offer an example where you feel this is acheived?

A good actor can make you see them as the character, not just the movie star. When you see Meryl Streep, Kathy Bates, Jodie Foster, Judi Dench, Sally Field you see the character. With Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise, Adam Sandler you see the same person doing the same thing he always does.

Well I always felt that when an actor/actress is in a movie and you can't imagine them being anything other than the person they play in the film/show, displays quality acting.

Most actors play the same characters over and over again. Not that it's their fault. Most actors are typecast and not allowed to play something different. Even if you're an A-list movie star you can't always do what you want. Look what happened when Tom Cruise played a rock star.
