Can anyone tell me if 130,000 SAR/yearly will be enough for a nice secure compound? We need a 4 bedroom and I am having a hard time finding not only housing compounds that are available but I cannot find anything about the amounts...PLEASE HELP!!
Hi and welcome on board valleygirl!
Have you tried posting an advert in the accommodation section of Jubail classifieds?
It might help actually.
Regards
Armand

Bit of a long drive but you could also consider living in Al Khobar / Dammam / Dhahran if you have a car and don't mind the extra time.
..Is a lot more going on in this area.
I have sent you a message k_0025!
hamlay - we have began looking at Khobar area but it seems quite a distance to drive into Jubail to work. can you tell me which compounds are closest to Jubail from that area?
there are lots of compounds in Khobar. Try looking at the following website for some ideas;
rightcompound.com
Hamlay
alkhatergroup.com/home/mortco.html
bajraigardenvillage.com
explore the above sites and you can check ur reqmt. U can get the desired house within ur budget.
yep 130,000 a year for a nice secured compound would be a good sum ,iam living in a 6 bedroom house ,with 3 huge halls for SR 80,000...in jubail ,royal commission..

Safamv- I assume that your 6 bedroom house is not in a compound. Can you tell me if many western expats live outside of compounds in Jubail?
Am thinking about a move to Jubail and am going to be visiting in a few weeks. While there I need to try to find a place to live for 2 or 3 years. Will be moving with my wife and 4 young children.
Thanks.

Hi Valley Girl
Did you have any luck with finding housing in your budget? I am now in the exacy same position with the same budget.
I am desperate for any information as i am now in Saudi but have only got 1 week to find somewhere as i am in Al Khobar and due to move to Jubail in 2 weeks.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Andrew417... I wish you much luck finding housing! We were moved to Jeddah instead of Jubail unexpectedly but we were extremely happy b/c the housing was so booked for YEARS in Jubail. I cannot understand why they do not add more compounds for a city growing so fast! Good luck and I hope to hear you found something!
Thanks for the reply Valley Girl....It's a nightmare, i'm thinking about telling the company that unless they find me something then i will not be staying.
Thanks again
andrew417
I would definitely tell the company that if I were in your position. Housing there IS a nightmare and I think you would benefit having the company get on a waiting list...I too understand your apprehension about going with no place for housing.

Hi, I've been here for 9 years or so but we chose not to live on the compound and even though yes we did have to shop around for an ideal place as we have children living in Royal Commission was ideal for us. Jubail is small but its neat and clean and when you live in Royal Commission the beach is always a stones throw away from wherever you are. Also if you have the same budget as valleygirl then you could get a fantastic place for that amount in Royal Commission, but if being around other expats is going to play an important part of your life then you should push your company to get you a good compound place.
Thank you Nayah so much for getting back to me.
It is really hard to know what to do for the best especially when most places want 12 months commitment.
Are there many expats in the Royal Commision area and do they get together? I am just thinking of my wife when i am working. We also have 2 daughters aged 5 and 10 months.
Thanks again for getting back to me, it's hard decision so your insight is greatly appreciated.
I can only speak from my own experience. As for expats in Royal Comission there a lot more now then a few years ago. As for me,I found my expat friends by meeting one person then before I knew it I met enough to consider as close friends. But if your family needs more socializing then there are other ways to find expats, the only good international here is the filled with children from America,UK,South Africa and other countries so when they have events and such you maybe able to meet other parents, also if your wife wants to know more about jubail before she even gets here she can get to know ladies through Facebook. There are a couple of "jubail ladies" pages. I'm not a very social person and Im a busy mum of three so a few close friends to meet with every so often and daily chats on the phone keeps me some what sane, but if you and family fear feeling lonely then perhaps a compound is better for you....but got to say the villas are lovely in Royal Comission LOL sorry confusing you now.
Nayah
I cannot thank you enough!! I have just spoken to my wife and i think we are going to give the Royal Commission a try and see what happens. If it is not for us then we can try for a compoud later.
I will ask my wife to join the facebook pages and hopefully she can meet some people there before coming out.
Just one more question if you don't mind?
Are you able to go out in the day on your own without any hassle and how do your children find it?
Again, thank you so much!!!
All the info I've given is my opinion so please ask other people....because my friend hates it here, not jubail just Saudi Arabia full stop so be prepared it does take a lot of getting used to,but my attitude is be grateful for whatever good you have and focus on that rather then lose your mind thinking about how awful it is,because it's never as bad as you think.
Now...about going out alone,I feel secure and safe as jubail is very safe compared to any city I've lived in,i see expat women walking in the mall all the time alone or in groups so thats nothing to worry about I think. I go out to the local shop or the beach with my kids at 10/11 o'clock at night as its not far and I don't have look over my shoulder or worry BUT I blend in as I wear the Islamic attire,I go walking everywhere with the kids as my husband is often busy,or I call a driver that I trust and go where I need to. I should point out that jubail is small and theres not a lot of places to go anyway, you'd have to go to Khobar/dammam for fun. Sometimes when I speak in a shop, people or should I say the odd man might get a little nosey but best is look past them and ignore them and get on with your business. Im going be frank, sadly if you're white and not veiled unfortunately you do get more unwanted attention that's what I've been told by those I know who don't veil, sadly the men ogle sorry that's the unpleasant part you can't fix. As for my kids they like it here as they where born here they think of it as home,we go to the UK in the summer but they seem ok at moment about being here. Anyway hope my input helps...but truthfully adjusting is hard and there will be tears so brace yourself but when you be positive and try to accept the cultural differences and do things to make things even a tad bit better for yourself it'll be ok,hopefully! Gosh I really do go on and on don't I ?
What is the price range of a 3 bedroom decent family home in the Royal Commission area (per year)?
Can someone describe what a decent 3-4 bedroom family home (I guess they call them villas) in Royal Commission area has (not in a compound)?
How big are the rooms? What amenities are included by default like cooking range, microwave, clothes washer & dryer, water heaters, dishwashers etc?
Is there central air conditioning or window AC units?
When they say "fully furnished" or "partially furnished", what does it really mean? I read somewhere that they count the carpeting in "furnished"!? Is this true? Here in the US, furnished does not mean carpeting, which is really a basic thing included, but it means the furniture e.g. sofa, chairs, beds/mattresses, dressers, dining table/chairs and the like.
What about the power supply, is there 110 volt available or is it 220 V?
Thanks a lot for any replies.
valleygirl, any luck or updates?
Someone please reply to my earlier questions...nayah, komsee, safamv??
andrew417, how did you make out with your search? Any luck...will appreciate any info / updates.
Thanks!
ExpatPro...
We ended up in Jeddah instead of Jubail but I can tell you that the villa we have was furnished and it was living room suit, dining table and chairs, buffet, beds in all bedrooms, dressers, nightstands, dressing table, washer/dryer, appliances,etc... but we had to purchase linens, housewares, things of thatnature along with decorative pieces. Hope this helps!!!
Sorry ExpatPro,I've been busy and haven't had time to sit down and ask my hubby about all your queries as I don't think I can really answer them. I think my husband will be more informed as hes the one who deals with the estate agents. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
No luck here. I am in jubail now and all compounds are full with long waiting lists. The prices are exceptionally high!!!
Me wife and I have decided to try a villa for 6 months. ( if I can find one)
I am going to spend the next few weeks looking for some in the royal commission area.
Thanks to all for getting back...
valleygirl, looks like you are all set for now, Jeddah is more of a cosmopolitan city compared to others in KSA I hear. So all the best!
nayah, I will wait for your reply.
andrew417, sorry to hear about the compound's situation. Please do post your experiences from your villa hunt in the RC area. I wish you good luck.
Hi everybody,
I think it is very difficult to find an accomodation these days at Secure Compound,,
But, Royal Comission Area is almost the same and very secure,, I highly recommend to anyone would like to have an accomodation, to have it in an open area, it would be much cheaper with more options,, You can find Villa (4 Bedrooms) with 75,000 - 85,000 SAR. whereas, Compound prices are double this price.
If anyone would like to have some help or support, please feel free to contact me through E-mail: faisooli@windowslive.com
wishing everybody all the best.
Regards,
andrew417,
hope you've managed to finally get yourself sorted out with suitable accomodations. did you manage to find anything in the RC? based on your experiences, i wonder what you would advise as to the best way of finding a villa in the RC? is there a phone number, website or email? seems most of the compounds are running a cartel and cannot keep up with the demand. Many thanks to you and everyone else participating in this thread... its very helpful!
