Belgian-American Dual Citizenship

I'm a Belgian living in the US. I became a US citizen in 2006 and lost my Belgian passport during a trip to Switzerland in 2008 which was valid until 2014. I just want to find out if my citizenship status as a Belgian is in jeopardy given that I took US citizenship before the dual nationality was passed by the Begian government in 2007.
My previous Belgian passport was obtained whilst I was still on a Green Card.
I just want some advice whether it would be easy to obtain a new Belgian passport or whether I need to re-apply for Belgian citizenshp with a lot of expenses and paperwork.

Hi,

have you tried to contact the Belgium embassy in the US?

Embassy: 3330 Garfield Street NW., Washington, DC 20008
Telephone: 202-333-6900
Fax: 202-333-3079

All the best,

Julien

Hi Julien:

Thanks. I thought about contacting the embassy but I wanted to find out informally first as the embassy probably plays by the rules and they may not have any flexibility.
I personnally know Belgians who obtained dual citizenship before the law was passed hence I know it's possible. I just need to talk and know the right people.

Cheers,

Ray
