The Premium Visa, issued free of charge, is designed for tourists, retirees, or foreign professionals who wish to stay in Mauritius for a period of six months to one year, renewable. Applications are submitted online through the official government portal.

This program is particularly popular among people who want to experience an extended stay, work remotely from Mauritius, or prepare a long-term relocation with their families.

Benefits of the Premium Visa

Holders of a Premium Visa are granted a temporary residence right in Mauritius for up to 12 months, with the possibility of renewal. This visa also allows you to:

  • Work remotely for a company based abroad.
  • Apply for an Occupation Permit (to work or invest locally).
  • Apply for a Residence Permit as a Retired Non-Citizen through the Economic Development Board (EDB).
  • Purchase property in an approved real estate development — under the IRS, RES, PDS, or Smart City Scheme, or an apartment in a building of more than two floors (G+2).

Conditions for obtaining the Premium Visa

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Present a clear plan for their stay (extended tourism, remote work, retirement, etc.).
  • Have travel and health insurance covering the full duration of their stay.
  • Not take employment within the Mauritian labor market under this visa (income must come from abroad).
  • Provide supporting documents for the stay, including a letter of intent, proof of accommodation, and return flight tickets.
  • Demonstrate sufficient financial means to live in Mauritius — at least USD 1,500 (approx. EUR 1,300) per month for the main applicant, plus USD 500 per dependent per month, or show an equivalent amount transferred to a local bank account (supported by a statement or bank certificate).

How to apply for a Premium Visa

The process is entirely online and free of charge. Here are the steps:

  • Book your round-trip flight.
  • Complete the online application on the EDB website.
  • Upload all required documents.
  • Receive your Premium Visa by email.
  • Book accommodation in Mauritius and inform the EDB of any change of address during your stay.

Important:

Before applying, it is advisable to check with the EDB regarding the possibility of renewal, especially in the case of multiple applications, as renewals may be subject to time limits.
