Hello🤝,
Thank you for the warm welcome. My name is Santiago Llamas and I am planning my future career in Switzerland. This June I will graduated in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences in Spain, and I am very interested in developing my professional career in Switzerland. As a Spanish, I am eager to experience the opportunities Switzerland has to offer.
So far, I have found little information about job opportunities in my field in Switzerland. I would like to know if there are options available to work in gyms, sports centres or other institutions related to physical activity and health, taking into account that I have a good level of English and Spanish.
In addition, I am interested in learning the local language of the area where I would move to. It is important for me to find opportunities where I can work initially using my English skills while learning the local language.
I am grateful for any advice or information you can share with me.
Best regards,
Santiago Llamas.

Hi there,
My name is Diana Khmelnitski.
I moved to Switzerland two years ago with my family, and we’ve happily settled in central Valais. Adjusting to life as an expat has been an exciting journey, but building a business here has brought its own challenges.
Almost a year ago, I launched my business offering personalized balloon backdrops, table art, and full venue decorations for all kinds of events. Whether it’s a birthday, wedding, or corporate gathering, I aim to bring joy and creativity to every celebration.
Joining this community feels like a great way to connect with others who share the expat experience and to spread the word about my services. If you’re planning an event or just want to say hi, I’d love to hear from you!
Looking forward to being part of this vibrant community. 🌟
Warm regards,
Diana Khmelnitski

Hi, not sure if this is where I introduce myself.... But I am looking to move to Switzerland under the retirement Visa. I would love to connect with people who have done this, I have questions about bank accounts, taxes, etc especially if they've moved from the US.
Also I will be bringing my small dog with me. Not sure which city I plan to start my adventure in would also love recommendations about that. I love the outdoors and lakes so I was thinking Lugano, having visited that area years ago.
Thanks!
Kit
Hi everyone,
Thato here. I moved to Switzerland, almost a year ago with my husband in the beautiful canton of Geneva.
It's been a journey ... and kicking off this new year, I feel optimistic, excited; and looking forward to making my stay here as memorable, impactful and enjoyable as possible.
To achieve this, I'm also interested in meeting with people currently working in any of the NGO's in Geneva to jump start my mission of service (as I would love to work here), and together, make a difference :-). We can discuss this in more detail over a cup of coffee!
@julien, this is such a great platform and I look forward to experiencing all it has to offer.
Warmest,
Tha

Hello everyone,
I moved to Switzerland, Lugano, with my wife two years ago after receiving a job offer from Sunrise as a Digital Marketing Manager.
We are enjoying our life here, the city and the country are well organized, clean and safe.
Fortunately, our jobs are good and offer good stability.
We enjoy meeting new people, trying new places and restaurants, traveling and playing sports.
I hope to enjoy this community, meet interesting people and get some useful tips from your experience.
Best,
David
Hi everyone,
I'm Maria, and I'm thrilled to be part of this community! I moved to Switzerland 10 years ago (zurich), and over the years, this country has truly become my home. I'm a legal counsel, and run a project to help Portuguese-speaking people to understand and navigate Swiss life.
Having been here for a decade, I’ve navigated many of the challenges that come with settling in a new country. I'm happy to offer any advice or tips for those of you who are new or considering the move, also I'm here to meet new people and learn from all of you,
Looking forward to connecting, exchanging stories, and continuing to celebrate all that makes Switzerland so special.
Cheers,
Maria

Hello, Expat Community!
My name is Tyler, and I moved from Canada to Switzerland in 2013 after falling in love with a Swiss woman. Fast forward to today—we have two amazing kids, two dogs, and call the Basel region home. I’m now a dual citizen and truly enjoy life here, embracing both Swiss German culture and the German language.
If you're curious about the path to Swiss citizenship or have any questions about life as an expat in Switzerland, I’d be happy to share my experiences and tips!
Looking forward to connecting.
Cheers,
Tyler
Hi @Julien,
I'm Chiara. Thank you for the warm welcome.
I'm a nurse and I live and work in Italy.
I graduated in October 2023.
I'm interested in developing my career in Switzerland; I think that Switzerland as a State is more efficient than Italy, especially in the healthcare.
I also love Swiss landscape and learn new language. I've studied German and French at school; for sure I need to take up the studies but I'm not worried about.
Best regards,
Chiara
My name is Issam Ismaïl.
I came to Switzerland from Syria in 2007 as a restaurant worker. I had to take a French language course. My passion for the restaurant business knows no bounds... This enabled me to open my own restaurant in 2011. Two years ago, I started a new career by opening a transport and moving services company in Lausanne.
Through this community, I hope to exchange ideas and suggestions that may be useful to me in the future.
Best regards
Dear Sir or Madam,

Hi everyone 💜 I’m Maria, an expat living in Lutry. Like many of you, I’ve felt the ups and downs of relocating—navigating daily life, building new routines, and sometimes forgetting to take time for ourselves.
That experience inspired me to create a small wellness space here in Lutry where I focus on Pilates, strength, mobility & balance. For me, it’s about finding a little place to recharge, move with purpose, and feel supported as we adjust to life here.
If anyone’s curious, I’d be happy to share more. I’m really looking forward to connecting with others in Vaud, sharing experiences, and learning from this community. Wishing you all balance and wellbeing in your journey here 💜
@Julien

Hi everyone,
I’m Marie-Laure from France. I spent some time in Geneva last summer and I really enjoyed it! I’m planning to move there in November 2026 to live and work in Switzerland.
I graduated at the end of 2024 in web & mobile app development, and my goal is to grow as a full stack developer. I’m also open to new professional opportunities while preparing my move.
At the moment I’m working as a manager assistant and HR manager. I started in my company as an accountant, so I’ve had the chance to discover different roles over time.
French is my native language, and I’m working on improving my English to communicate more confidently.
I’d love to hear your experiences about moving to Switzerland and what daily life is like there. Any advice or tips are very welcome!
Best regards,
Marie-Laure

Hi all,
I am Mahwesh, moved to Switzerland 9 years ago with my husband and our three daughters. Lived in Geneva first two years as an expat, working in one of the international organizations and kids going to the international school. But then moved to Lausanne and that is where the real Swiss experience started as soon as I got out of the "international bubble". Husband and I both started working for local Swiss companies in Lausanne and kids started the public school system. I am so grateful we did that because today the children are fully integrated, and my husband and I have many friends. Really enjoying being able to put our roots down here and call Switzerland home.
Only work in progress is learning French! I am still at a B1 level after so many years!
Look forward to engaging with everyone
@KhanM
Hi Mahwesh,
Welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing your experience! It’s wonderful to hear how you and your family have settled in and integrated into Swiss life.
Good luck with your French. Reaching B1 is already a great achievement, and living in the community will definitely help you progress further.
Looking forward to seeing you around the forum!

I currently serve as Head of Agriculture and Guidance Counselor at Kahawa Garrison Secondary School, and I’ve also worked as a House Mistress in a girls’ boarding school.
