Can family sponsor a spouse for Belgium immigration?

kimamourette

Hello,

I have a bit of a unique situation that i haven't found much perspective on in my search for information.

I am a Belgian national living in Canada with my Canadian husband and our daughter.

we are planning on moving to Belgium together, however because I haven't lived or worked in Belgium I won't be able to meet the requirements for sponsorship for my husbands' visa.

I do have my family in Belgium and they will be supporting us in the beginning, but they don't technically qualify to be his sponsor as they're not his direct family like me.

My question is, can my family stand in as his sponsor on his visa application or if not, what would be the most practical(and legal) way to make this move happen?

any perspectives are welcome!

Kim

Hi Kim,

The workaround, i think, is via your daughter. If she is still a minor (and most likely Belgian), then you can first establish your residence here. Meanwhile, your husband can join you for a tourist visa. Then your daughter, instead of you,  "applies/lodges" for FR visa for your husband/her dad. You can  investigate this route by searching for more information online. All the best!
