B card application

rjBelgium18

Hello,

I am working in Belgium from last 7 years and recently switched to local employer.

I am paying social security from last 3.8 years. I applied for L card and application was rejected.

Commune said that your employer can raise B card request for you.

When I checked with employer they said employer does not raise B card request, and if you are eligible you will automatically get your B card during next single permit renewal.

My next single permit renewal is in 2028 so it's still 2 years from now.

Is there any other option to raise B card and who can raise that?

Please suggest some options as I want to apply for nationality after receiving B card.

Thank you.

For B card you need to wait 5 years of working under Belgian contract before applying, if not it will be rejected.

May i know, how long did you wait before receiving your L card application decision ? When did you apply and when did you receive the response ? I’m waiting for mine

I applied in Mid December and received the decision in 3 weeks.

I read that for B card, only 5 years legal residence is required, even commune informed me that I am eligible for B card, but I am not sure how to apply for it

you should be able to do it yourself. I don't know why they said it has to be your employer. True for the next renewal it will automatically granted for you but 2028 is already more than 2 years from now.

My suggestion: you can consult a lawyer for one visit, one hour. it will cost you around 100euro and get some advice.

If one has lived for 5 years under local contract, can they apply for L card directly? Also cz' someone tell me what is the difference between a b card and a L card? Which one is better (if it can be measured that way)

@nyamani77

Do you know the lawyers in Brussels specialized in such cases ?

@Srizzy

yes if 5 years under local contract then you are eligible for L card. L card gives you access to other EU countries while B card is valid in Belgium only.

You can apply for citizenship with both L card or B card.

What is the date to calculate 5 year completion? The date in first residence permit or the day I went to the commune after arriving in Belgium?
