Accompanying a baby during long-stay student visa application

NayAsh

Hello everyone,

I hope you're all doing well. I have a question regarding accompanying a baby during a long-stay student visa application in Belgium, and I was hoping to get some insights from the community here.

I am currently in the process of preparing my long-stay student visa application to pursue my studies in Belgium for a full academic year. I have a baby, and I would like to know what options are available for my baby to accompany me throughout the duration of my stay.

Firstly, I would like to understand the specific conditions and procedures regarding family reunification within the framework of a long-stay student visa application in Belgium. Is it possible to include my baby as a family member in my visa application? If so, what are the required supporting documents and criteria?

Additionally, I would also like to inquire about the processing time for the baby's visa. As the academic year begins in mid-September and if the processing time for the baby's application is longer, it could pose a challenge in meeting the necessary deadlines.

I would like to mention the fact that the father holds a residence permit A and is already in Belgium.

On the other hand, my baby holds a short-stay visa with single entry, would a change of status be possible once he arrives in Belgium with his tourist visa? Since both parents will be in Belgium at this moment with a legal long stay.

I would greatly appreciate any information, or personal experiences regarding the process of accompanying a baby during a long-stay student visa application in Belgium, taking into account the processing times. If anyone could provide me with relevant resources, contact details of the competent authorities, or any additional tips, it would be extremely helpful.

Thank you all in advance for your attention and assistance. I look forward to hearing from you and benefiting from your valuable knowledge.

Best regards,

Hello. In my opinion, the best way is that you change the baby's status after arriving in Belgium from tourist to family reunion with you or your husband. So its possible and relatively easier/quicker if done from Belgium. Since baby already has a visa, does not matter single or multiple entry. Important thing is visa, So he can enter belgium.

@NayAsh Also you should submit your visa application asap because its taking alot of time these days and june is finished already whereas classes begin in september. On the other hand, you could also do family reunion visa application but dont do it now because fam reunion app with non-EU takes more time than a student visa file in general.
