Hi im looking to move to malta early next year. I know it's a bit of a random question but I was interested to hear peoples thoughts.
Are there any business's or services that malta is lacking that you think would be successful. I'm a builder in England so used to running my own company.
Thanks in advance

Window cleaning on Gozo, I believe there’s only a couple of people doing that.

Thanks for replying. I was talking about window cleaning with my partner. I wasnt sure if it would be popular enough to earn a living from.... so you think there is a market for it then.. thanks very much it's very helpful

I have heard quite a few people asking for one, also doing odd jobs as it’s hard to get someone to
do decorating etc, when you want it done not a year later, friends of ours have been waiting for someone to paint their ceilings and cannot get a local person to do it as it’s not a big enough job, good luck.
I only know about Gozo not Malta.

As a builder your chances are great once you are specialized. I know some Polish guys have started to do gypsum work and other foreigners plaster fassades. What is absolutely missing is building insulation. If you get specialized it is a big market over here. What you need is to promote this idea. With respective support and advertising you will succeed, because insulation saves a lot of heating expenses.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm a plasterer by trade but cover all aspects of building work now.
In regards to insulation, alot of the buildings are solid walls aren't they?(sandstone looking)  and I imagine people want to keep the stone on show?? To insulate and cover them would ruin the character. Or have you heard of alternative ways of insulating in malta/gozo?

A lot of the new builds have plastered walls, unfortunately wages are lower then the UK and
many of the builders only employ minimum wage workers.

Where insulation is not possible from the outside the alternative is to do it inside. This needs MDF boards and foamboards as well. If you take foamboards inside you have to plaster them after. This keeps you busy and the place looks pretty and will be more cosy during the cold season. Insulation inside is a job flat by flat. It is like a niche somebody else found by offering a wallpaper service. This maltese man got his training in the Uk and is in high demand over here in Malta.
