Companies in the EU (which Malta is part of) are more likely to hire citizens from there as they do not have the worry of completely visa paper work.

There are plenty of beauty therapists and hair dressers already in Malta so I do not know how easy it would be to find employment,

To work here as a TCN you would have to get a work permit/Visa and to get that you need to have a job to come to!
The type of job you are talking about would, by law, have to be filled by a Maltese person if a suitable candidate was available, followed by an EU national and then a TCN.
