Hi All,

My wife and I are moving from UK August 21st. My employer is kindly putting us up in a hotel for 2 weeks in which time I need to find suitable accommodation.

I would like to get in touch with a private landlord (Paying estate agency fees in an expense we could do without right now).

Looking for a 1-2 Bedroom Apartment in Hawally, Salmiya, Salwa region.

If you are a private landlord or know of a private landlord please DM me.

Very much looking forward to hearing from you.

Shaz And Grecia.

To avoid the agent costs a friend of mine just walked through the neighborhoods he thought he wanted to live in and then called the numbers we saw on the signs.  It took us about a month to find a place  but what he ended up with was super nice and cheap.

When i did my house search I went through an agent and had a positive experience. His commission is 1/2 the monthly rent fee, but he negotiated a very fair deal and the contract was very straight forward etc.  After that he offered to play translator for me when I went to buy my car (from a private owner that didn't speak english).  We still get together occasionally for coffee, etc.  If you'd like I can put you in touch with him.

Cheers

Hi Bill,

That sounds great. I'm all for parting money with someone trustworthy who will really try to accommodate for my needs rather than hard salesmanship.

Would love to hear from your contact

Please pm me his details and I'll get in touch.

Kind Regards

Shaz and Grecia

Hello guys,

Regarding commission for apartments going to a "harris" (what we'd call a building manager in The States or Europe) 50 KD or in the case of someone who is a Westerner, 100 KD is the MAX you should ever pay... On top of that, they will expect 5 KD a month, for doing what they are supposed to be doing anyway or 10 KD if they 'wash' your car...

Regarding commission going to an "agent" make sure you are very careful about that.  In my opinion, that's totally unnecessary and typically those people are extremely shrewd... Moreover, if you're arriving in mid August, you will have plenty of places to choose from between 300 and 350. If you are lucky, maybe less...
By September though, those places will be gone and you'll be looking at more like 400 for a place you feel comfortable in given your target neighborhoods...
I've been here four years and personally have never met someone who had to pay an "agent". Go to the areas you want and if you don't see a "for rent" sign, just ask the harris.
Whatever you do, avoid Frost Real Estate at ALL costs!
I'll share my experiences when we talk.
Feel free to call me on Whatsapp...
Good luck.
