I remember reading a post not too long ago about someone interviewing for a HSBC call center job and not passing the test/interview. Just curious what kind of test they give and what type of questions do they ask?

I had one also, but I passed.. I just ended up turning them down  :(    I have to go to another interview now  with a security company, I will reply to you in more detail as to how it all worked when I get back home.

OK I am sorry it has taken so long to get back to you...

HSBC is currently in process of expanding their call center to 1000 employees, they get some EU funding for having the larger operation but I don't know the in's and out's of that...

1. call the number listed in the newspaper for a quick over the phone interview

2. if they think you have a sexy voice they schedule another one with you with a higher ranking individual

3. if they still think you have a sexy voice you go in for a tour of the facility and interview # 3...   pretty simple, you have some computer tests ( cakewalk ) they check your math skills ( any high school student that sleeps half the time would pass ) and introduce you around, wait 10 minutes in a room and if they like you you are offered a job..

Simple.

after that 4 weeks training ( no days off allowed in that time ) and you start.

It is shift work, you are taking calls from UK clients, helping them with their questions and making suggestions to them on ways to improve thier future and accounts.

It's pretty simple really..  98% of the interview is really personality.

:)  hope this helps

Hi Chad,
Just wondering - as an American ,why you choose Malta - instead, let say - Hawaii ?

mgrima68

Chad..maybe you can answer this since you're an American. If anyone else can answer...that be great too..

I came to Malta with no trouble because my husband is Maltese and I didnt have to go through any paperwork to live or work here... Curious to know what an American or any other non EU citizen has to do to be able to live and work here? Would like to know the process because I have a family member who's thinking about coming.

me3512

I am married to a Polish (EU National) so I really don't fit the profile you are looking for, I fall under a whole different set of rules.   I know for a standard residency for non-EU nationals there are quite a few requirements, including having over 20K liquid in the bank and/or a provable monthly income.

But unfortunately this is all I can tell you.  I know there are others on here that can answer this better than I can.

I NEVER want to live back in the states again.  I wont get into any details on here because I don't want to hijack the thread with a political discussion because i could rant for weeks on the stupidity of my government and it's leadership, more less a people who elect a leader with no previous experience purely based on race..  WTF! ( sorry )

Also Hawaii is EXTREMELY expensive and the local income does not allow many freedoms, such as home ownership etc. unless you inherit something or are wealthy..

Also Malta is beautiful, as strange, loud and inconsiderate as some of the local culture is they really do have their plus sides to. they are honest for the most part, and that's a big one for me.   Cost of living here is good, wages aren't terrible, standard of living is good.

I also like the laid back lifestyle of Island life outside the US...  I miss a couple conveniences occasionally  but nothing to give me any desire to ever return.

Hi ,

As Chad knows, I'm in the same situation , just the other way around . I'm EU and my girlfriend is American . We both chose Malta as our new home ( definitly better weather than Boston even if today was a bit wet ands windy). For a non-EU with no EU connection it will be really difficult unless the person comes with enough money and does not need to work to live in Malta.

But if you need some individual advice on the process feel free to PM me. Every situation is different but never easy.

Regards
Ricky

Also something Ricky makes another good point on... Every situation is different the government looks at every situation differently and individually ( or so it seams ) there are set rules, but there's a lot of leeway.

Hey Chad - how amusing, it appears you left the States to get away from people like us, and we left the States to get away from people like you...and here we are drinking Cisk together in Malta! How bizarre.
