Looking for a job in Dubai, but...............

Post new topic

nikoslive

Hello everyone,

Since last year I am actively looking for a job in Dubai. I have applied to thousand of advertisements which my profile does fit, however I haven't got any reply.

I am a well paid employee in The Netherlands working for an international telecommunication Company, however I can't stand the dark side of Europe anymore. Taxes are increasing, social benefits are scrapped and much more........ affecting my life in a negative way.

My dream is to start a new career in Dubai, however I find it impossible to get a feedback from both employers and work agencies, I don't think I am that inexperienced employee however I have no "wasta" in Dubai.

Any tip would be appreciated.

Best Regards,
Nicolas

My advice to you

1- Build a very good LinkedIn profile, and start building your network of colleagues (current and former), recruiters, join recruitment groups, join groups of the same interest/specialty as yours..... ask colleagues to recommend your work ...... etc.

2- Apply for jobs at Etisalat (www.etisalat.ae), Du (www.du.ae), Ericsson UAE, Huawei, and every major big player in the UAE telecom arena.

3- Use recruitment website to list yourself as an interested candidate in UAE jobs, use automated search agents to search for jobs and alert you by email, search for jobs manually and apply.

My recommendations include Monster, Jobserve, Bayt, Gulfjobsmarket.com, and all the other big players.

4- If you are interested in contract work/freelancing, contact the major players in the field (Networkers PLC, RP International, First Point Group, Tangint .....etc.)

It is not about "wasta" ..... It's about connections. Wasta and connections are two different things .....

Advice though

Dubai is tax free, but not expense free.

In Dubai things SEEM to be cheaper ...... however, anything involving a gov. procedure, is expensive (getting a driver's license is around 4000 AEDs for instance) ..... etc.

Not that I am saying working/living in Dubai is not lucrative. It definitely is ...... but unless the job offer is REALLY REALLY GOOD, do not walk out of your job in the Netherlands.

Hi,

In the present economic scene, I would say do not lock yourself onto Dubai; check out neighboring Gulf countries such as Qatar (fast growing) or even Saudi Arabia.  Once you land in the Middle East, you can slowly find your way to UAE, or you may like the other place even better.  Another option is to come here on a visit visa and make some more serious attempts, so you will be available immediately for interviews.  But like others said before, 1 - do not leave your present job; 2 - never say never again.  Keep trying, you will succeed.
