Today's Weather

We have had warniings of winds, it had died down now, But Europe has been battered, a storm in Spain has killed 5 people. THe UK has one storm and another one following it. - @SimCityAT

Yes, heard that on the radio.  But UK is 2000 miles away.  It's clearing up here and a touch of sunshine has appeared.  We've got a week of disturbed weather.

Tomorrow is the big 23 October 1956 Revolution public holiday and everything will be closed.  PM^2 will be speaking outside Parliament.  From the EU/EC, Ursula vd L and Antonia Costa will speak.

I said we should go IF Zelenskyy would appear but I doubt they'd announce him in advance.   Too risky some scumbags might try to take him out.

If no Zelenskyy, it's just another weekend of doing DIY.

@fluffy2560

Bulgaria has it tonight and tomorrow. Someone wrong called it Adam in their forum, but its most definitely not.

UK got battered - @SimCityAT

More battering than cod and chips (pricey as hell, £14 some places for true cod but saveloy and chips, £2.99 some places as special offer).

Meanwhile, over here, superb day, brilliant sunshine, decent temperatures in the mid-teens.

Ideal for a long weekend - today 23rd a public holiday, weekend slow and even Monday might be being taken as holiday by many.  Clocks change 2am Sunday and next weekend, it's Halloween and cemetery visits.

On the weather station:

14.6C, wind 4 m/s from S, sunset 17.47h (sunrise 07.17h), humidity 53%, 1018 hPa pressure.

Leaves changing from green to gold.  Looking like a good weekend so far.   Not today, but tomorrow, dog walking possibly BUT the moment the sun comes out, the car parks at the forest trails are mobbed.  I know a lot of places for walkies so I've got plenty of options.

Wind is picking up here, but we don't appear to have received the same battering as those further south of us.  I've had a "reassuring" e-mail from PowerGrid that they have prepared for the current weather conditions and that if we have any problems to call them; they said that last time, so just out of interest I called them, they advised me to contact my GP, which I did - I'm still waiting - and my B***dy wife works there!!!

Maybe you on the "vulnerable list" for services like PowerGrid (no idea what that is unless the name gives it away).  My Dad was on it for telephone services at least. I don't know about power etc.  He lived in sheltered housing before passing so I guess the management took care of it.

Been reading about the UK storms - one after the other.   Our gusty wind has now mostly gone but it's colder.  I don't know why they called it Storm Austen and then Boelo.  First of all, it should be Austin, like the car and what is Boelo anyway?  Next one is Chloe.   According to the BBC:

The list of 21 names has been announced by the Met Office, Met Éireann and the Dutch national weather service, KNMI, and comes into effect on 1 September and runs until 31st August 2027....Other names which could feature in weather forecasts over the coming year include Kilian, Jade, Miriam, Finn and Nicola - while one of Britain's best-known animated characters has also made the cut....Shaun, after Shaun the Sheep, was chosen following a public vote which pitted him against fellow character Timmy.

Here in an uncertain Hungary, it's only 11C today, with a chill factor of -2C meaning about 9-10C'ish depending. Rain expected. Monday might be better.   The doggy suffers when weather is bad - no walkies in rain or snow.  Anyway, wind means leaves and that means collecting them for the "green" waster collection.  An exciting day for the semi-retired.

Sunset is 17.45h today and worse, it'll be 16.45h tomorrow.  We go from CEST to CET.   Ugh.

Like I said, rotation of the Earth around the sun, who needs it?   If I could blame it on Trump I would.

Today's Weather:

11C right now, minor wind 1.1 m/s from South.  Pressure down 1008 hPa.

Clock change -1h seems like it will make it miserable.  Months of darkness.  Sunset is 16.43h.  Sunrise tomorrow will be around 06.20h.

However it was quite nice today, it was remarkably sunny and even T-shirt weather.  I was actually able to do some long needed painting around Fluffy Towers.  I also prepared my hi-tech bird bath.  That project was stalled for a year due to my utter fecklessness.  Now I've finally sealed the sandstone top (and bath) with  a water based epoxy paint (actually, clear "pond paint" which is non-toxic).  Sandstone is the local stone and is of course porous so if it had water in it, it would just soak away and the birds could not splash/bath in it.   Sandstone looks good though for some features but nowadays it will just slowly dissolve with acid rain. It's really soft.  It's dead easy to cut and grind.

All I have to do now is paint the wide angle ("fish eye") camera housing (it will be Forest Green to "hide it") and  assemble the entire thing.   The actual bird bath weighs perhaps 100kg.   I do not know how we can lift it.  I am thinking build a ramp and push or pull it up.   It will need perhaps 4 or 6 strong people to lift it on to its base.

I did have an idea to paint the housing yellow because it looks like a minion.   The housing is an old dog food tin with cut outs for the camera lens etc and rubber seals installed.  I might still paint it yellow, then see what it looks like, then if no good overpaint it with green.

It's been very windy here for a couple of days/nights now; the only casualty was an old tile that we had left over from the bathroom, that I had ideas for using elsewhere, but just never got around to it.  I'm sure that she who must be obeyed will have good ideas of what to do with the bits.  It looks like the winds will die down over the next few days, to be replaced by warmer, but more stable weather with the nights getting colder.

Anyway, been down to our youngests place for her daughters birthday.  We were discussing her Uni course and it came out that if all goes as it looks like it will, she will be one of the few nurses who actually earn the title of Doctor from their nursing studies.  Assuming all goes as it looks like it will, she will earn a  DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice) and be a Nurse Practitioner and be able to prescribe certain medicines; there is much more to it than this.  I'm very proud of our baby.

We are down near the Romanian border to honour the dearly departed. A tour of cemeteries where we spruce up graves, plant flowers and light candles. We take the last remaining uncle along. He was an agriculturist and supplied my beekeeping Dad with bee medicines to keep his hives alive.  Always a pleasure. The BIL is also joining. Fish restaurant for lunch. I think I'm having cat fish. If it says miaow, I'll know.

Anyway,  the weather is superb. 15C, sunny and bright.  Really nice day to be out and about in graveyards.

Sunday we do the rounds in villages adjacent to Budapest. It's very pretty with all the lights on.
