Today's Weather

fluffy2560

It seems we will get some cooler weather by Tuesday.
It is so strange here in Hungary.
It might cool down and get hot again or it may snow the next day.
I'm pretty sure we can count on it cooling down for the year within the next few weeks if not sooner and stay that way.
It seems as soon as I pull out all the summer clothing the weather turns and it's,"hat season" again.
I judge the weather in colder weather by what sort of hat I must wear.
It ranges from a SW style New Mexican straw to wool beret to a Russina style fur hat with ear flaps.
PS, I agree please, please try to cut down on the smokes.
I know the big C is not an easy way to go and 3 packs a day is really looking for trouble.
Not judging at all, just trying to show some care for a fellow human on this journey. I would suggest at this point that nail chewing is a better activity.

It's now 35C at Fluffy Towers.  We're hiding from the sun.   The dog and cat are hiding too.

I've started wearing a hat when I'm in Balaton (in the water) or in the garden.   I've got several types including Australian bush hats too.  I don't usually wear a hat in winter unless it's really cold.   In the water Balaton I used to wear UV shirts but now I have a thin wet suit. I could stay in there all day and never get cold.

People should cover up in brutal sunshine as the risk of skin cancer is too high. Several family members have had it but it was caught early.   People roasting themselves lobster red don't know what they are doing.

Smoking and finger nail biting go together.  I was biting my nails even if I was smoking. It wasn't one thing or another.   Given up smoking but I catch myself biting my nails.  Oddly it seems to only be biting time when I'm driving.

Looks like summer is coming to a close.

The spa was busy yesterday, when we got home I noticed it was 95F at 6 pm.

Not sure what the high was yesterday . It was hot though.

Today is a good day for running errands, cool and breezy.

I had a nice made bush hat from OZ, gave it to my sister because I didn't have any need of it in Vegas.

That's the problem when one moves from place to place.

Some clothing items are practical in one climate and not in another.

Just like me taking all my good higher heeled shoes to Hungary.

I don't trust the uneven walkways enough to wear heels here.

I always think the ladies wearing high heels are artists, balancing themselves .

I even saw a women running in heels on a cobblestone st. once.

Amazing,

I must always wear a hat in cooler weather. I get really bad headaches if I don't.

Suppose I'm not a "fathead".

My head, hands or feet getting chilled and it's over for me.

O negative blood they say tends to feel temps more then others do.

When it's hot they get very hot, when it's cold they get very cold.

Can't say if that's a scientific fact or not but for me it's true.

fluffy2560

Weather changed I see looking out of the window this 2023 September 23rd Saturday.

16 C, rain 4.5mm since midnight, cloudy, slight breeze to ENE, 1.7 mps,  sunrise/sunset 06.32h/18.41h, UV low (unsuprisingly).

Days are getting shorter as we grind on to the clock change end of October.

Monday should be back up to mid-20s and no rain.

That'll be good as I have plans for outside work. Mainly thinking of rotating tyres on car and thinking about winter/all season replacements.  Getting in early on new tyres.

fluffy2560

Expecting mid-20s today.  Ground is wet from the rain.  I will be doing outside work.

@ 10.15h:

19 C and rising,  1.8 UV, 2.2 mps wind from West, sunrise 06.34h, sunset 18.37h.

That clock change will be challenge.  Only 3 weeks before we'll be plunged into darkness.

Marilyn Tassy

I am confused with this weather,

Rainy, windy then sunny with a slight breeze.

I pulled out my collection of berets today, waiting on digging out my gloves.

Haven't sorted my swimsuits out just yet. Hate saying so long to them until next time.

Almost time to reorganize summer to fall clothing.

I can wait for the early darnkness, hate it.

My friend up in Sweden said they had no summer at all this year. Never went higher then 72F all season long.

I suppose it could be worst here.

It is very confusing.

I was working on the car yesterday and it was a sauna.

And even now it's 23 C outside at 11.30h.

Northern Europe has some peculiarities - very long days in summer and horribly short days in winter. I remember playing football in a park in the UK at 10pm.  You could still read a book.  Winter, you barely see the sun.  Lack of sunlight gives people depression. I hated coming home from school in the dark.

I'm also looking at my summer gear and how to retire it for this year.  We have far too much stuff. I think we're using only about 25% of it.  Mrs F and I seem to be paralysed to actually get rid of stuff.

We need to spend more time outside while we can.  I'm planning dog walking and gardening today. High is supposed to be 24 or 25 C.

Marilyn Tassy

We should be out today but too busy doing some online business.

I need to go ,"barefoot in the grass" before it's too late.

Having almost always lived in the SW US I find the early darkness a bit unnerving.

Feel like a Vampire always in the dark.

The best thing to rememder is to take enough vitamin D-3 to fend off the ,"wintertime blues".

It's 22C at 10.40h today.  Very sunny and almost no wind.   Sunset 18.33h.  Plenty of vitamin D producing rays out there.

At lunchtime yeserday, I was in the forest with the dog and it was surprisingly busy.  A few mountain bikers, dog walkers and joggers.

Our dog (Golden Retriever) met an angry Labrador (unusual) and some Viszlas. Not dogs I like much. I always find them to be too much in your face and anxious.  But they seem to be everywhere suddenly. I think it's a "nationalist" dog for those asserting their HU credentials.

Suddenly got work to do which is surprising.  Like London  buses, nothing for a while then three come at once.   I was planning to do some DIY while the weather is good.

Marilyn Tassy

What a waste of a nice day yesterday for us.

Hours online doing business that came to nada.

I walked allot the day before and my ankle/top of foot hurt.

Resting for a big day tomorrow.

Viszlas to me are just so cute and pretty. I have a thing for short haired athletic looking dogs.

Large breed/short hairded dogs are beautiful to my eyes.

They do seem a bit like a nervous breed but they need to be run daily , not a house pet.

My husband worked with a HU guy in Burbank who had a HU Viszla brought in from Hungary. All trained already. This guy loved to hunt and the dog was useful to him.

My Doberman as it turns out was about perfect fro me, well not in the days before he was trained. He was far too strong for me until he learned who was boss( not really).

Dobbies need exercise but they also can be calm as long as their people are with them.

My dog would follow me everywhere, be happy to just watch me while  I cooked and even had to be turned away from the washroom when I showered.

He was not happy unless he saw me at all times.

So loyal and protective.

Dobbies can survive on a bit of play time and a few walks and access to seeing the world .

My Dobbie had his own room with a corner view, he could see everything going on outside while still keeping his eyes on me.

Had a doggie door put in so he could enter or leave the house at his own will.

I hope this nice weather holds up for awhile.

I'm sorry to say I'm not keen on Viszlas.  I think they are too thin and anxious.  I see a lot more of them being walked in the forest than I used to. We went to Harmashatarhegy Airport for Sunday walkies and it's Viszla Town over there.  I've always admired the Kuvasz but they are just too aggressive to keep for families.  Be good on a farm for guard duties.  I suppose I like the Kuvasz because it looks a bit like a Golden Retriever.  Kuvasz would need 10x the handling.

Anyhoo, looks like a nice October day.

The FWS (Fluffy Weather Station) shows 20C, UV 2.5, 2.6 Mps wind from WSW, sunny with some clouds perhaps later.  The evening temperatures are dropping now.  Last night was about 11C here.  That's a big drop.   At least no sign of rain.

I was repairing my  hobby car over the weekend (had an oil leak on the gearbox).  I needed to do it before the weather turns. It's just too cold to lay under the car and hold the tools in winter.  I plan to go to the car wash to try and get some oily patches off the bodywork and underside.  If it's washed I can see if there are any further oil leaks.   Going to the car wash is going to increase chances of rain.

Might do some gardening.  Anything to avoid working.

fluffy2560

Pretty cold this morning.

Only 2.3 C here at Fluffy Towers.    We're thinking of putting the heating on.  So far we managed to avoid it.

Could easily tip to frosty but sunny.  In the shadows, I can see possibly frost on cars and roofs of houses.

Days getting short too, sunrise 07.05h and sunset 17.53h.

We'll be plunged into darkness in a couple of weeks when the clocks go back (29 October at 020.0h).

In better news, weather forecast shows daytime low 20s at the weekend.

SimCityAT

Yep, finally caved in and put the heating on now during the night its 0°C.

fluffy2560

    -@SimCityAT

it's that "shoulder" period of reasonable temperatures in the sun and cold in the shadows.    I especially notice it in the forest when taking No. 1 Furry Fluffy walkies.

We've at least still have sunny days.   Our house is very well insulated so we still don't need heating during the day.  Just the sun shining through the windows brings up the temperature to about 23 C inside.

One upside of the shoulder period is that we can get a bit cosy with burning some wood at night.  We've only used a bit of the wood we bought 3 or 4 years ago. I think we've still got about 1.5 to 2 tonnes of it.

I think the winter season is coming later each year. I'm looking at my cherry tree outside and it's still got nearly all its leaves.  Our tomato and chili plants are still going quite prolifically as well.

fluffy2560

Strange October weather.

It's been really rather warm.  Unseasonably warm.

I was out walking the dog and it was even a bit sweaty in the sun and comfy in the shadows with a hoodie/light coat.  Saw people out  and about in T-shirts. Some basking in the sunshine at cafes.   The birds are even occupying our nesting boxes.

I am sure it was almost 18C  today.

We still don't have the heating on. I'm not complaining, just a bit surprised.

Even had the windows open during the day.

Maybe we won't have a winter.

Technical details:: Falling pressure at 991 hPa, cloudy, sunrise 0718h, sunset 1737h, 0 wind, 78% humidity.

Marilyn Tassy

Suppose to hit a high of 49F in Budapest today.

Wind chill feels more like 49F below!

At least the sun is out.

If we move from Hungary it will be because of the funky weather that lasts too long per year.

I hate being a house mouse but when it's so chilly and windy outside what else can a person do?

Not able to walk in the park without coming down with a cold, eating out and walking around the mall mindlessly is not a thing either.

Went to the farmers market last Sat. Pouring rain off and on. Got too messy with puddles all over and every item being soaking wet.

In bad weather, even if you're willing to fend it off it's still not much fun.

When we decided to move to Hungary, I had only spent one winter here and it was a nice one with snow. Didn't get the full low down on the weather situation at all.

Oh, it's not even winter yet! Anoter couple of weeks yet.

fluffy2560

I decided to burn some wood today.  Like a sauna now but of course the temperature has gone up anyway.

The snow is dissipating.  The rain this morning will help with  getting rid of that snow.  I was walking the dog yesterday.  It was hard going as the snow was crunchy underfoot.  It was 10C and I saw people in T-shirts.  Bit extreme.

This morning it's 4C, heavy rain of 14mm so far, slight breeze NE 3m/s and steady pressure 993 hPa.  Wind chill 2.6C.   Sunset 15.53h, sunrise was 7.23h.

All our snow has gone now, it is no surprise when we have had temperatures as high as of 11°C.

fidobsa

I went to ask my neighbour something yesterday, I could not knock on the door as it was missing! It looks like they have had new tiles in the hall and will probably need the bottom of the door adjusted to fit. I suppose a different tradesman does that and they have no door until he turns up! They actually also have a guest chalet and I found the neighbour in there. We still had some snow yesterday but it has washed away now.

It's looking very drippy out there.  Some snow remains in the shadows and on the roofs of houses hereabouts.  Forecast says sun tomorrow for a few hours.  That'll dry it out.

Mrs F was complaining it looks like we won't have  a white Christmas.  I'm not bothered myself.

We have a yearly discussion if we should have a real Xmas tree or a plastic one we can re-use.  Personally I'm in the plastic camp because I feel the real Xmas tree is a waste of a good live tree which is doing more good for the environment.  I don't know what the carbon neutrality of it is but I am sure someone with more time has looked into it.

Ikea will no doubt be running their old tree trade in again - buy the real tree from Ikea, take it back afterwards and get a voucher to spend in store.  So it's kind of like a rental.

Addendum: you don't have to take the tree back to Ikea.  Mrs F says, used Xmas trees are eaten by elephants at the zoo!

fluffy2560

I see snow has arrived again.

Looks like it's a White Christmas.  Bing doesn't have to sing about dreaming of a white Christmas, it's a reality.

The good news is that daylight was +5s longer than it was yesterday.  We've past  the shortest day! Yay!

It''s all downhill from now until the clock change and we're back in the good (or better) weather zone.

The snow cannot last in HU because it's going to be about 10C in the coming days.

It'll just be miserably wet and dripping.

Good gawd, what a night. Our shed door was blown off. But reading up of damage in the area includes Solar panels ripped off, exterior shutters pulled off, trees and fences down.

Happy Xmas!  Today's the day!

Still very drippy here our in the burbs with piles of snow.  And very very wet looking.

That's mega-bonkers!  T-shirts for sure.  The plants will think it's Spring.  Actually a couple of weeks ago, I saw some flies.  They should have been well and truly dead by now.  That doesn't bode well for the future.

fluffy2560

Really sunny today but not mega-warm but very nice in the sun.

I was doing some gardening (clearing up really after the snow) and I saw some bulbs were coming up.  That's crazy.  It's far too early.  I've heard reports of daffodils appearing now.  That's like 2 months too early.  Even in the forest we can see buds on the plants.

Today's conditions:

7.4C on my roof,  low breeze 1.7 m/s to the SSW, pressure steady,  Sunrise 07.31h and sunset 15.59h.

Slowly but surely, the days are getting longer.

fluffy2560

Last day of 2023.  What a rubbish year.  I will be glad to see the back of it.

Meanwhile, the FWS (Fluffy Weather Station) is reporting:

7.5C, slight breeze from ENE, 0.2 M/s, humidity 84%, very cloudy (some blue patches) with 0.2mm rain since midnight, sunrise 07.31h and sunset 16.02h

Fireworks about 19h

And the lunch time report from the kitchen is:

Leek and potato soup with smokey bacon and Pancakes!

Post-fireworks - hot dogs

2°C here, Im staying inside, can't be arsed to travel to Vienna as nothing is happening locally.

fluffy2560

Bit too warm today for the time of year.  It's more like Spring.

10.6C, 2.8 m/s wind from NNW, chill factor feels like 9.8C, sunrise 07.31h and sunset 16.04h.  0.2mm rain since midnight.  Very cloudy.

Quite unseasonable.  Next week I'm seeing -9C night time on the forecast and well below zero during the day.   Upside is that it gives an opportunity to burn some more wood from our stockpile.

I was thinking of dog walking today but rain could be possible. It'll be so muddy in the forest and that means a wet and muddy dog.

Just got back from walking our dog and now he's off with his mates at the doggy daycare - he should be exhausted by the time he gets home, but he'd be up for it again given the chance.

Aren't all dogs up for it all the time?

Even the old ones will go but slowly.

Why does he go to doggy daycare?  We leave ours in the garden and she can sleep on the covered porch steps.

She's got a special designer hole in the fence she can stick her head out to say hello to any friends passing by.

This morning it was the bin men.  She's dead keen on them and their truck!  It's a barking fest!

Our Retrievers never were; one of them while out with my wife decided he'd had enough and just laid down, he needed to be carried home by my son.

We do leave Boris out in the garden (front and rear), they're both dog friendly, but unless he's zooming, he doesn't get the manic exercise a terrier needs, so we take him to doggy daycare once a week where he can run and bark his head off with all his doggy mates.

He thinks the binmen, their truck and the postman are legitimate targets for his growl of death.

We see the bin men and their truck as fair game as well.   She's barking but wagging her tail as well.  So that's a clue it's not aggressive.   GRs are all motivated by food.  Quite intelligent dogs.  Ours can do tricks but we've hit a barrier on "roll over".   I think they aren't really built for rolling over.   Bit ungainly.  The cat has no brains at all. It's not motivated by anything except it's own interests.  I was just stroking it and it tried to bite me.  It's got psychological problems that puss.

Meanwhile the rubbish weather continues.  3.4C, almost 5mm rain since midnight, sunset 16.09h, slight breeze from NNW.  It's very cloudy and not really getting brighter.  It'll be going dark in 1h.  Not taking the pooch for a perambulation in this weather.  I'd rather it was freezing cold and sunny, than dull and wet. Typically rubbish January as usual.

Might as well just lay on the bed with the quilt pulled over our heads now we've had lunch and I'm moving to a food coma. I've already watched one WW2 movie this morning - Yesterday's Enemy with Stanley Baker.  It was quite good.  Almost like a play.

Holidays over for sure tomorrow (Monday) and the grind will continue.

Back on topic; if you ignore the storms blowing through at the moment, the weather here in North Yorkshire is what you'd expect (4C and cloudy).  The forecast for the following week is more of the same, luckily the rain here seems to have decided to go and annoy the Netherlands. However, I feel sorry for those living around the Markermeer as the water levels were rising there, luckily the dykes appear to have held and the rain there has also moved on.

I'm off for my annual medical review tomorrow.

Ah, medical MoT.  Good luck with that.   I've done my trapezius in (again) from lifting heavy boxes.  Amazing really how strong the muscles have to be in your neck to keep one's noddle in position. When there's a bit of overstretching, oh dear.

We used to live literally on a canal in NL quite close to Amsterdam and we never had any problems with rising levels of water  Our patio door used to open onto the canal about 3m away.  We had our own mooring but no boat.  I nearly typed moron there as I suddenly thought of Donald Trump but corrected myself.

My nephew, his Mrs and his kid live in an apartment block near Amsterdam CS.  They are on something like the 17th floor so they aren't going to be flooded.

I'm hearing on the radio (LBC) that things are looking bad again for next week in the UK - storm WhatThisTime? Henk has gone.  Storm Iris? Storm Ingrid? Imogen? I've run out of Is.

I'm looking at my weather station and it's down to 2C now. We're expecting a few days of below zero. It's been raining now for 2 days.   It's weird as we were up to about 11-12C a few days ago and suddenly we're plunged back into winter.

I have nostalgia for 1960s winter weather and particularly wet cold Sunday afternoons at home watching some movies will curled up on the sofa, Mum made some scones (with raisins) and we had afternoon tea.  Days gone by - lost forever. Shame really.   Having to make do with choc digestives.

0720h:

-2.5C, 81% humidity, slight breeze 1.2 m/s from NNE, sprinkling of snow, sunrise 0730, sunset 16.10h, pressure steady, forecast sunny but cold.

Maybe a good day to burn some wood and save some gas. Two very large and dangerous trees were cut down at my MIL's place.  Enough wood there for 3+ years of winters. But it will need to dry out for some time (maybe 2 years).

2C and overcast here today.  They're forecasting snow for the south of the UK this week (I guess that's what LBC were referring to), should be fun watching the roads gradually turning to car parks as nobody here seems to know how to drive in the snow.  It's not a storm as such so doesn't have a name, it's just a winter weather event that we get every winter.  If you have the Met Office weather app on your phone, they've just started doing UK long-range weather forecasts that are useful if you're planning things a bit further on.

I wasn't looking forward to today's little drive as the schools started back this morning and we share a culdesac with one of our village primary schools, so it's manic getting out when the school commute is on.   Back from the medical; I guess it's a bit different for me as I know all the Doctors and nurses (Mrs C works there); took 15 minutes to answer the questions, and do the tests (and I've lost 1 kg - yay).  Now I just have the COPD event to look forward to in a couple of weeks.

We have a school on the corner of our st.

In the mornings I hear cars honking at each other with so many lazy parents just stopping ,blocking traffic so their children can get out of the car.

What happened to walking to school?

No, I never had to walk through a forest or cross an ice lake to get to school but we never got rides to school.

We didn't live very close to my HS either. A good 40 mins each way to school and back.

It had to be a torental downpour for mom to give us a lift over to school.

Think my Jr. high school was further away, a good 50 mins each way.

Good to hear the medical report is good.

COPD isn't anything to mess with.

I did in my BIL a couple years back.

So much ,"junk" in the air around Budapest with people burning things.

Sometimes it smells nice, when it's real firewood but at times who knows what is burning?

My husband said back in the old commie days, the gov. would move poor families into new apts.

They couldn't afford firewood so they tore out their wood floors with varnish on them and burnt them up.

I sometimes wonder why we still live in the city, No reason for it really, bad air quailty and overly busy many times.

Who really knows though, they can still burn painted wood, plastics whatever in the countryside just as easily.

One day a few years ago we walked in the 7th district and we smelled Meth burning...

Someone was making a home brew and they had their windows wide open.

I've smelt pot coming from a neighbors apt. in the past but I would have an issue with a meth lab in the house.

We had a fireplace in our Ca. home. More for decoration then actually needing it to heat the house up.

We tore down an old woden fence around our property to have it replaced with a new brick wall.

I had bundled it up in piles and tied it up fr the thrash man to take away.

For some insance reason my husband decided to try and burn it in the fireplace.

What a huge mistake!!

Not sure where his mind was but the paint on the wood was sickening.

Had to oepn all the doors and windows to the house to get the smell out.

Had plans to run some errands today but thought the better of it, not in the mood to be out in the cold.

Last night I was thinking of the 2 homeless men living rough on the blvd. corner down the st. from our house.

How do they do it?

Scones for a snack... Haven't had those in many years.

My sisters used to be on a kick and bake them every week.

Actually I could go for one right now thinking about it.
