Absolutely Anything Else

Food costs are going to creep higher if diesel costs more.

Heard the grain harvest in the US was bad this year, the Iran war did not help at all.

What is being sold now is last years harvest, next year prices could more then double.

Stock up while you can.

Not sure what will happen but in the US many people have lost their food stamps and or jobs.

Not sure how long people can pay their bills with no income or less income.

Hungary probably also has people who can not afford to eat well.

Speaking of food, went to Lidl yesterday, really makes me angry, they removed what little self packing counters they had and put in more self check out machines. Only one very tiny counter is the whole store. The place is always crowded and there is not much room to pack up after paying.

I always leave that store without buying everything I had in mind; Too much trouble to get your items packed up between the huge useless security guard who stands in the way and the long line of people returning their bottles in the machine up front. Now no where to pack, people pack slowly at check out and hold up the line.

Not sure why they are too cheap to just open a larger store.

If the store was easier to shop in, we would purchase allot more from there instead of going to Tesco.

Right now it is only a quick grab some bread type of shop for us, any serious shopping is out of the question until they set things up for the customers comfort a bit better.

Busy in October:

Friday 23rd October is a public holiday for the 1956 Revolution.

It's also a week's holiday for school kids/universities - so there should be no traffic.

Also we have Halloween on Saturday 31st October so everyone will be doing their candles at the cemeteries. It's pretty and a tradition which is quite cool.

And we'll get a clock change on Sunday 25th October.  Going back 1h at 0200h (2am).  Easy to remember - Spring Forward, Fall Back.

Also commemorates the 1989 proclamation of the Third Hungarian Republic.

Lidl here in my village has also become too popular.  There's always a queue but we go to the self-service and pay by card.  It's not your way to do online stuff but it saves time and is convenient.   The bottle return is in another building next door to the main store and there's never a queue there.   It's more like the old Aldi used to be in Lidl now.  They have a reasonable selection of tools which Aldi has abandoned as a sales theme.  I used to buy tools and gadgets in Aldi but now I always look in Lidl.  Forget Tesco for any of that stuff.  BTW, the biggest Lidl I've seen is in Erd.   It's probably 1.5 x the size of an ordinary Lidl.

I don't know about food stamps etc as that's something I think no-one gets here.  They probably pay social security money and then the cash can be spent on whatever people want like cigarettes and booze.   In the UK, we now have food banks.  People cannot afford to pay and usually one can get stuff no questions asked. I am not sure if people cheat but I expect they do.  I mean going there and lying to pick up stuff.  That's pretty bad to do that but some people have no scruples.

It's almost certain there will be a food shortage and prices will go up considerably.   If not for diesel, also because Ukraine is a breadbasket shipping millions of tonnes of grain out to places like Europe, the Middle East and Africa.  There are two people responsible - Trump and Putin.  The terrible twins.  So not only are they screwing over Ukraine by letting Russia bomb Ukrainian shipments, they are screwing many other countries.  It's a war crime.  Not that they'd ever be held to account for it.  It's a shame.

I've been planning a work trip out to Asia Pacific and it looks like it will cost almost double what it cost 5 years ago before  all the turmoil.  I'll put that off as long as I can.  I will combine it with a visit to my daughter and SIL.  it'd be free for me as work will pay.  I've never been to Australia so that'll be a rather interesting side trip.  One thing which is a definite no-no is going via the USA.  It's simply too dangerous to go anywhere near the place with Trump in charge.  All my devices will get examined.  It's not worth the risk going that way.

Friday is rubbish/trash bin day.  Oh, the excitement.  But can I get the kids to bring their trash?  Nope. I've resorted to messaging them in social media.

I've been making a list of pet peeves:

  1. Not pushing the chairs under the table when finished
  2. Not putting stuff in the dishwasher and leaving it for me and Mrs F
  3. Leaving glasses/plates all over the place
  4. Not sitting at the table when eating
  5. Not bringing their trash down from their rooms
  6. Leaving the bathrooms floors wet
  7. Not learning to drive (yes, No. 3 daughter, you)

and I am sure many others...

I did not know that.   I'll have to Google it.

I wonder now we have PM in the hot seat if we'll get a 4th Republic as they are looking at a revised constitution to reverse all Orban's BS.
