Terminated contract and L card is processing at the same time

Mai Rose

Hello everyone!

While I was just terminated contract by the employer, I went to commune to ask my status, they said I meet the requiments to apply L card (they did not see my contract was just terminated). Now I have some questions, if some one has similar situation, pls share your experice. Thank you

Timeline:

•    2015 – 2023: resrearcher and PhD student (held a Type A student card continuously), did not contribute social security, but worked as student jobs max hours per year.

•    2013 – Oct 2024: Search year with Type A card (one-year job search period)

•    Feb 2024 – Feb 2027: Type A card with work permit (valid for a permanent contract)

*I has been googled in all opficill websites, and for L, (B) card we need to stay 5 years unlimited and have   finance to support yoursels, do not mention student time/2, maybe they changed the rules)

•    They received L Card Application in October 2024, and made an appointment to pick up the L card in March 2025 (5 months 1 day) if approved

•    October 2024: Contract was terminated: Notification of employment contract withdrawal sent to the International Social Office

•    Current Status: Actively searching for a new job

Questions:

1.    Is the L card likely to be approved?

2.    Will the Type A card (expiring in 2027) will valid within 3 months (by January 2025), or 3 months + 6 weeks’ notice periods ?

3.    For the period between January and March, which type of permit or document should she apply for?

4.    Once a contract is withdrawn, what is the typical process for canceling the A card? (Is it correct that the International Social Office will notify IBZ, which will then notify the Commune, and the Commune will inform the resident?)

Now I am actively searching for a new job and hope

If some one has similar situation, pls share your experice

Thank you

1- Yes

2- 3 months more valid from the date that your contract terminated.

3- Annex49 Doesn't grant work. Only residency.

4- HR issue c4 form and automatically authorities get informed. Then after a while municipality will contact with you.(Probably not because they also see L card is processing)

Worst case :

If L card rejected which is low possibility, then municipality will be informed, they may call you or send a letter to invite you to municipality with your A card. Take your A card and give you annex 49 which is valid 3 more months since your linked contract finished.

Good luck

Hi, Sure my plesure - @Mai Rose

I will add myself here to know how it went will your L card application as I am in exactly the same spot.

Also I will ask to you (and everyone reading): After you got fired (while your L card application was in review) Did you apply for unemployment  benefits (since your employer gave you the C4)? Cause I am planning to do so also during my search year permit and I am afraid that IBZ will reject my L card because of the unemployment benefits... Thanks!
