Duterte and Russian Vaccine

Enzyte Bob

President Duterte offered to be the first person to try the Covid 19 vaccine from Russia when available.

He said: I am overjoyed because Russia is our friend, they will give us vaccines and did not say anything about payment."

Me: This sounds like the free lunch I've been warned about.

I won't be using a rushed one from any of the above or anywhere else. One of the great problems people are having with the virus is politicians turning it into a political thing.
Blame, blame, blame, then rush to show the world you're the best - Many are at it, and all are stupid.

President Duterte  get ready to play Russian Roulette and move to the front of the line. Your friend, the Russians now have a vaccine tested on dozens, with you maybe a dozens plus one.

The following is paraphrased from a news article I read:

Scientist in Russia and other countries sounded the alarm that rushing the vaccine before final testing could backfire. Russia has offered no proof to back up claims, safety or effectiveness.

In the US it requires studies of 30,000 people. Two test are underway and three more are set to go in the fall.

The whole thing has turned into a party political circus in a good number of countries, thus proving politicians don't give a flying rats about the people they're supposed to be working for.

If any of them had any brains, they would all have got a selection together from all their country's political shades, and worked out the best way forward from there, but pretty much all (at least in the west), were out to prove they could do it without any help from anyone that wasn't the same political colour as them.

I despise the lot, regardless of political bent, because they're all part of the same pile of corrupt dog turds, and all out to grab as much as possible without the slightest thought for what their job should be.

I'd  include South East Asia as well (no political angels here either!)

Very probably, but most in this corner of the world have acted a lot less like spoilt little beaches in public.

Do you remember the dengue vaccine Dengvaxia (Sanofi Pateur) that killed a lot of children in the Philippines? The Philippines was the first Asian country to approve the commercial sale of Dengvaxia. In 2016 children were vaccinated at school, even those that never had dengue. That was the problem.
Another vaccine distributed without proper controls. Déjà Vu.

WMD anyone?

There goes a dark chapter in medical history. My mum's doctor prescribed it but she said the sickness wan't too bad so didn't take it.
Seems I was lucky even before I was born.

However, if this is a dead vaccine, the likelihood of serious problems is (hopefully) much more limited. A Chinese/Indonesian paertnership is conducting mass clinical trials in Indonesia at the moment. One hopes speed isn't the main concern.
Sinovac are partnering with countries all over the world, conducting trials in many, so luck might be on our side.
One positive note - The press are all over this so, if there are any problems, they'll get reported pretty quickly.

They do.
If your place is anything like Indonesia, the politicians aren't cat fighting like a bunch of drunk tarts in a night club, so at least they're behaving with a level of dignity in public. That's one up on the UK and US lot we're reading so much about.
It strikes me this isn't a party political problem, or even a national problem, but blame and bravado seem to be a lot more important to many politicians than actually doing something positive.
Left or right makes no difference, but that hardly matters when their primary interest is lining their own corrupt little pockets.
Seems the main qualification one needs to enter politics is a blank space where daddy's name should be on your birth certificate.

Drain the swamp

Can you be more specific which swamp?
Everywhere is a swamp.
Even Shrek used to live in a swamp.

All the world politicians and police should follow Duterte and inoculate themselves with Chinese and Russian unproven vaccines. Now that would be a welcomed service to their respective countries - showing love and preservation to their citizens!

The Russian vaccine is a ploy to try and help Trump to get elected to a second term. This time America is ready for all this bs. But I do think a vaccine will be here by the Summer of 2021.Their are too many countries pouring money into its scientific research and development of a COVID-19 vaccine for progress not to be made.

Fred

Getting too party political. Trump is loved and hated so tends to cause pointless bunfights.

And mentioning the Philippines President's name could leave to repercussions.

Perhaps.
I know Indonesian immigration read Indonesian expat forums so it's very possible agencies from other countries do the same.

Best way out is be careful what you post

Hahahahaha. . . . . . Biden and Tamala is a Russian ploy to get Trump re-elected.

Fred

Now we're well into party politics.
Perhaps now would be a good time to change the subject
