We are not in China and your beloved Tesla in the Philippines,,,,,, not China is a heck of a lot more expensive compared to other comparable imports.

Take into account branches with service centres, Buy a Tesla and it's all out of Manila, for us that's a 6 hour drive and an overnight hotel then a 6 hour drive back. BYD have set up logistics all over the Philippines, here they are 30 minutes away, drop the car off in the morning and drive it home in the afternoon after a nice meal and a bit of shopping.

The thing is P1, now we have alternative choices with imports/exports unlike years ago. Choices were ICE motors and that has changed big time. Bit like solar panels when most came out of Germany,,,,,, technology and opportunities led to competition and nailing the markets.

I look at it this way and only for us and won't suit all but we generate excess power from a large solar system, I simply chose to take advantage and stick it into an EV and not rely on a  "drill baby drill" mentality nor plug it into the grid at a fast charge station that is more expensive than fossil fuels.

Bit like who uses incandescent globes these days for lighting?

Said it plenty of times that you can't stop progress.

In my most humble of opinions,  Trump’s war agenda is not aimed at Venezuela or Iran, it's pointed directly at China.

His unprovoked attack on Venezuela hit China's oil supply, but not all that much.

Closing Hormuz hit them much harder and, when it was realised the Iranians were still shipping to China, Trump closed it himself.

Now it's time for the Strait of Malacca - how will he try to control that?

I have a few thoughts, but none are well enough developed to call them any more than guesses.

Well P1 and only my experience, Australia, many countries have been pushing the alternative wheel barrow for decades and while favoured by the left the right seems to hate the thought but can't offer a cohesive way forward. Only nuclear. We had a 5Kw roof mounted system, grid connected 20 years ago and saved us around AU 2K per year, paid for itself in 2 years and 3 months. I see our farm now on google earth that the new owners have more than doubled the size.

Some countries move forward while many seem to go backwards. I remember my first trip to the US some 20 years ago and driving east from California coming across a sea of wind turbines in the desert, probably the same ones that are killing the birds.

My Sis and BIL recently purchased a new EV as their roof is plastered with solar panels and like me simply charge while the sun shines. The sun wile shine for another 4 or 5 billion years, hydrocarbon reserves?

I disagree. China may be the best capitalist nation on the planet (India is very good, but lacks the forward vision), but it relies on trade routes.

The Malacca path being the single most crucial.

All of China's oil and a very large percentage of its raw materials and exports use that sealane - blockading it chokes China.

Chinese civilian vessels could just take the slightly longer route to the south of Indonesia,  but the yanks built a big airbase in the north of Australia to cover that.

I believe the US will attempt to control Indonesia by one means or another, thus leaving themselves with the ability to build an airbase (probably on South Sumatra) with the intention of creating the ability to totally blockade China's shipping.

Never underestimate China Fred.
