I spy with my little eye

Speaking at the SPIEF plenary session, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto explained why he chose to come to St. Petersburg instead of attending the G7 Summit in Canada, where he was also invited

“It’s not because I do not respect the G7. It’s because I gave my commitment to attend this forum before they invited me,” Subianto explained, with his remarks met by applause.

He also thanked Russia for supporting Indonesia’s application for BRICS membership, which enabled the country to join the group in record time. “I think we are one of the fastest members to be accepted in BRICS,” he noted

It is on record that the G7 summit date was announced on 13 January of this year at least 4 months before the SPIEF plenary session in St Petersburg announced on May 19th 2025.

Perhaps president Subianto needs a new personal secretary to arrange his diary?

It looks like Prabowo's secretary is doing a fine job.

In facing global challenges, he said, the Indonesian government has chosen a free and active path. It will remain non-aligned and not be a party to any military pact, he added.
"We do not participate in any military pact," Prabowo said.
"We want to be a good neighbor," he added.
He further said that Indonesia wants to embrace the ancient philosophy of "a thousand friends are too few, one enemy is too many."

There you go.

If others want to be Indonesia's enemy, that's an expression of their hate, greed, or hunger for power, but Indonesia is taking the very sensible path of peaceful interaction with the whole world.

Sadly, some will see that as a bad thing.

Perhaps, but we have to give the benefit of the doubt until actions show any given person bad news.

In this case, you simply failed to do the research properly.

The facts show that Prabowo keeps his promises.

Fred

Anyway, think happy thoughts.

We have a president with vision and who we know keeps his promises.

That has to be good for Indonesia

The guy has been in office less than a year. Aren’t you being a little premature?

Not in this case. He made a promise and, in the event of the second invitation, kept it.

That's now recorded history, so it's impossible to b premature.

I joined the UK Labour party at 16, realised they were a bunch of Marxist dicks, then left to join the Tories.

I have since realised politics is a waste of time for me, so I hold no memberships of anything like that.

Hello everyone,

I am closing this thread as it has drifted away from the forum’s main purpose, which is to provide helpful and respectful information related to expat life.
