Overtime in Saudi

Johnrea

Hi,

I have been offered a position in Riyadh but my contract states that as a manager I am not permitted to be paid overtime. I have read the employment law and found under article 98 as a manager I am not privy to the standard working week, but I cannot see anything saying that I cannot be paid for my extra hours.

Can anyone out there advise. Thanks.

John

You're going to get exactly what the employer offers.

Highly doubt you would be paid overtime.....a bigger concern would be finding out if the company pays its employees on time.

The company is one of the worlds biggest. An Anerican company. The original deal was 8 hours 6 days per week. Then have since mentioned I will be working 10 or 12 hours and claim it is illegal to pay managers overtime. I don't think this is true.

Make the decision know that you will be working 12+ hours 6 days a week (or more) and no overtime. If this is acceptable then take the job, or just say thanks but no thanks.

Personally I think its not worth it, you wont have a life, not even time to spend the money you make (if thats the attraction).

After certain Grade level, some of the companies have the policy to not to pay any overtime and that's also applicable to Saudis. And its very much true for oil and gas giant and petrochemical giant, ARAMCO and Sabic !!

You ask them by which article of KSA Labour Law it is illegal to pay ? so many organizations here doing same thing not only for managers but also for engineer's.
I have even seen an organization where those who have Basic Salary of 2,500 SR or more then they will get only one hour over time (fixed) no matter how many extra hours you work " you will get only one for a day"
Ones you arrive here u cannot do any thing better if they mention in your contract that overtime will be paid accordingly then only you should accept.

The contract with yer signatures on it will be considered binding.

Thanks everyone. There is a project allowance built into my salary but this nowhere near compensates for the level of overtime expected.

I'll hang fire a bit longer and keep pushing.
