Hi,
I am Rachel from Malaysia. I am in the midst of planning to migrate to Melbourne. I heard that it wont be easy to secure a job there without local experience. I am a registered nurse with 5 years experience in medical ward. From the information that i gathered, nursing certificate from Malaysia is not recognised. I plan to take the bridging programme in order to register with the Australia nursing board. But i am not sure how long I am allowed stay in Australia and what kind of visa i should apply. Will it be difficult to get a job in hospital setting if i am not a PR?

Welcome to EB....
I would suggest that the student visa may suit you.
The visa is good for the length of your study course.
You can work part time on a student visa, 20 hrs a week.

I read that I can only stay in Australia for 1 year after my course if the duration of course is 2 years and above. The bridging programme duration is only a few month. Does it mean that I will have to leave Australia immediately after my course? If so, do u think that it is possible for me to get a job with working visa within the short duration of time?

It sounds like you will have to leave after you have completed the bridging program.
To get work I suggest that you start looking as soon as you get here. Contact hospitals and clinics for possible employment.

Also keep in mind that unemployment is rising here in Australia and cost of living is high.
