I am planning on going to school in Glasgow in a few years, but my family is thinking about moving there before then because we love the Highlands. We are Americans and are used to being able to own a big house with plenty of rooms.  My question is, what is the availability/cost of owning a house in Scotland, maybe near Glasgow, or Loch Lomond? Do many families own homes? What are they generally like?

P.S. I have a huge fear of spiders(yes i know it's girly, but i'm a girl so i'm good with that), so be honest with the whole bug/spider situation!

Thank you in advance!

-Glasgow is nowhere near the Highlands
-You won't be able to live in the UK unless you have the proper visas and permits, so moving before you go to school won't work unless you have access to another right to live in the UK
-Yes people own their own homes
-I see more bugs in the US than Scotland to be honest
-It sounds like you'd be looking at starting around 215,000GBP to buy the type of home you'd like by Glasgow.  Check out Persimmon Homes, which build big new houses

Thank you for the info! That was very helpful. I will have to research a bit more into exactly where we would like to live. As for the right to live in the UK, both of my parents work in law enforcement in the states, and there has been talk of possible job offers out there. But thank you for the warning! And I am most relieved about the bug thing...
