I would like to get some legal advice with regard to becoming ordinary resident in Malta . I am British but my wife of 18 years is a jersey born person and is not part of the EU. Does any one know of a good legal person or official who we can get in touch with so that we can begin the process of residency and ensure are doing everything correctly.  Thanks

I am not a legal advisor but your wife would qualify as a family member of an EU citizen.
This Advocate's site may give you the information you need or lead you to gaining advice:

Also
'The following members of a worker's family have the right to reside in the same country, irrespective of their nationality:
spouse
registered partner (provided the host country treats registered partnerships as equivalent to marriage)
descendants who are under the age of 21 or are dependants
dependent relatives in the ascending line (e.g. parents, grandparents).'

If you are an EU citizen ( or family member, as above) you have a right to reside and work on the Maltese islands but you are required to inform the authorities within 90 days of arrival If seeking to reside beyond this time. (Job seeking exceptions apply when you may have up to 6 months). The method of informing the authorities is to complete their e-residence procedure and apply for the issue of an e-residence card.

This is done after arrival on the islands and applies to workers and those residing on the basis of self sufficiency.

Not sure why you would want legal advice.
You as an  EU  citizen are entitled to live and work within the EU, your wife just needs to obtain permission from the Maltese embassy.

All this information is in the link I gave in reply to your other posting.
