Hi I will be graduating with a bachelors degree in electrical engineering at the end of 2011 and was wondering how hard is it to find a job in Dubai. Researching about Dubai seems promising but really hard to find concrete answers. Currently residing in the USA.

Also I am hispanic about 5'11" athletic built... How is the racism out there?

Lomond

I've heard of Indian guys trying to get into fancy nightclubs and being refused entry on the grounds that it's full, buit then immediately after a group of locals/Europeans go in

Seabee

We have something like 180 nationalities living side by side with no problems.

There's the occasional thing such as Lomond mentioned but it's rare and usually sorted out very quickly.

We've been hit by the economic meltdown like everywhere else, so jobs are harder to find. Many more people, including those with local experience, are applying for each job so the competition is tough.

r1sk

Do you see anyone working immediately after graduation? Im hoping to land this internship with Raytheon or the government that will give me at least 2 years of experience in my field.

Lomond

Yes don't worry about racism - Dubai is a melting pot. In an office with 50 - 60 staff you might have 20 mother tongues represented, with English as the office language: English,Arabic,Tagalog(Phillipines),German, Dutch,  Mandarin, Cantonese,Urdu,Hindi and other South Asian languages and dialects.

r1sk

thats awesome, do companies pay for employees to learn new languages?

Seabee

Not usually, it's up to the individual to learn other languages. People you work with will help or you can pay to take formal lessons. Arabic is the obvious usual choice.

We communicate with each other in English, it's the normal everyday language for everything.

I am a canadian and experienced IT professional, I am looking forward to come to Dubai for work, please guide me how to find a job in Dubai or links that can connect me to companies

Unfortunately, due to a high recession here, it's difficult to find a job in Dubai in this period. In fact, Dubai it's not an expat's paradise any more... so, try Abu Dhabi instead.

Good luck

UAE has a number of Colleges and international University-accredited programs.  Some Graduates from these institutions have been absorbed as trainees and continue their employment, while many have gone overseas for higher education.
For fresh graduates from other countries it would be quite challenging to find entry into organizations.  You would need to try hard through various channels like the companies' own portals, employment agencies or known persons referrals.  The Oilfield companies do recruit fresh graduates from time to time, but now the accent on students with Arabic capability.
