So, my husband and I are very excited about my new job at a new school in Kuwait. However, I just found out that since I am female, I cannot sponsor him to come to Kuwait as my trailing spouse. Any advice? I know that he can come initially on a tourist visa for 3 months, but geez...

He is also a teacher and I believe that he would find a job himself in a NY minute soon after we set up house. Is it legal in Kuwait to look for work while on a tourist visa? Inquiring minds want to know.

Also, while I am at it, are there any Western Women groups/clubs in Kuwait that I could join so that I will know some people there as soon as I land? Any advice very much appreciated. Thanks!!!:)

I have a friend at work whose husband doesn't work which means every three months they have to go outside of Kuwait and she's been doing that for 2 years now. You can look up the American Women's League and stop by Operation Hope for Esther's Attic which is a re-sale shop for charity, there are many links on my blog for things to do in Kuwait.

Thank you, Kuwait411! I will look those groups up. :)

Hi, you are welcome in Kuwait . There is not thing wrong if your husband came for a Visit and try to find a suitable job during his stay . However once he found the job he will be given a new Visa with the Employer who would hire him as his sponsor.
I wish you a pleasant stay in Kuwait.
good luck .

Hi there

It won't be hard for your husband to find a teaching job in Kuwait especially if English is his specialisation. Good luck!

FYI there's heaps of people who travel out from Kuwait for every 3 months just to renew their visa. They need to stay out from Kuwait at least for 2 nights . My husband is one of them and has been doing that for a year. I will provide more details about getting cheap airfare and alike when you are here.

Hi :) he can look durring these three month , but he will need to exist the country to come with a work visa , I'm a teacher also in one of the  international schools in Kuwait and I think , it's better to look for the job now to have time for issuing the visa and start on September wz the new school year , good luck :)

Hello, welcome to Kuwait!

I recommend that you join the group "Canadians in Kuwait" immediately. Send me a message off list and I will be happy to give you a direct email address for them.

They are a very active social group, they hold a breakfast buffet meet-up every Friday morning and various other holiday dinners, embassy nights, dhow cruises, etc. It's a fantastic place to meet people, and it's not JUST for Canadians. I'm American, and one of my best friends here is British--and I met him at one of the breakfasts.

I came over here for my husband's job, have since been hired as a teacher, and I am STILL on the tourist visa. It's not that much of an impediment, but DO make sure he applies at all the schools he is interested in working at. I know ASK and AIS are some of the better ones for Americans to work for. I would start with the American School of Kuwait. They are a large school and almost always have to make "emergency" hiring decisions when teachers back out at the last minute. If I were him I would contact them directly and submit a resume now so he is fresh in their mind.

Contact me when you arrive, we'll have you over for dinner or something to help you get settled.

:)

Thank you, Lily, Maraf and Heather315! I am glad to know that he can look for work on a visitor's visa. Also, thank you for making me feel welcome already! :D
