International Coastal Cleanup! Please read!

Hi everyone!  Here is a little something that I compiled for a radio announcement today regarding this years International Coastal Cleanup. There is a big event this weekend...I hope many of you can join!  The numbers are absolutely astounding...SMALL GROUPS OF PEOPLE CAN (can can can!!!!!!!!!) make a big difference!!!!

Announcement:

Much of the trash in our streets and in our waterways ends up in our oceans. This trash degrades the foods we eat and the water we drink.   It's time we all pledge to take on the trash!  It's simple. Do what you can to reduce your trash impact. Clean up an ocean space near you. You can also join the cleanup crew this Saturday and Sunday as part of the 27th annual International Coastal Cleanup.

We can all do our part to create cleaner beaches for all of us to enjoy; cleaner water for us, fish and all marine wildlife and a healthier ocean for those whose lives depend on it. Last year nearly 600,000 volunteers from around the globe  joined together for the Ocean Conservancys International Coastal Cleanup. They picked up everything imaginable along the worlds shorelines; from Cigarette butts, to food wrappers to the proverbial kitchen sink!!  These passionate ocean lovers not only pick up the garbage, but they also count every single piece as well.  The resulting item by item, location by location ocean index provides an invaluable picture of just what's out there and helps inform lasting solutions.

Highlights from last years cleanup include:
9,184,428 pounds of trash collected
20,776 miles cleaned
Top ten items found: Almost TWO MILLION cigarette butts, Over one million caps and lids, over one million plastic bags, over one million Plastic beverage bottles, Around one million food wrappers and containers, 800,000 cups, plates, forks, knives and spoons, 500,000 glass beverage bottles, 500,000 straws and stirrers, 500,000 beverage cans, And over 400,000 paper bags!

These numbers are truly astounding!!!  Pease remember that all of us can make a difference!  As the quote goes...NEVER THINK THAT A SMALL GROUP OF PEOPLE CAN NEVER CHANGE THE WORLD, FOR INDEED IT'S ALL WHO EVER HAVE!

Hope to see you this weekend at the cleanup...or just strolling down the beach taking 10 minutes out of your beach time to grab some garbage and toss it in the trash can!!

Peace,

Courtney. :)
