I don't know your motivation for wanting to come to live in France but, whilst we are very happy living here, my advice would be come and have a good look around before choosing where to live. France is a big and very diverse country with tremendous differences in climate, lifestyle, affordability and access to medical care depending on the region. I have never visited Toulon and don't know why you are attracted to there in particular but would be wary as it is a military port city close to Marseille which has its own reputation as a highish crime centre with, reportedly, a flourishing drug culture.

We decided to leave Panama in 2024 as we had made a bad choice there thanks to perhaps well- intentioned but ill-advised advice, and we learnt to check for ourselves before making a life-changing decision. We came to southern France in 2022 and explored extensively before choosing our present location and thank goodness we did as there were many areas that were presented as attractive but,in reality had significant downsides.

I don't know your age, but for us as pensioners, good access to healthcare is vital. France has a well deserved reputation as having some of the best quality and cheapest in the world but it also very location dependent as there are, in some areas, places known as 'Medical Deserts' where there is limited access to general doctors and/ or specialists.

We are not City People so cannot comment on the nightlife in those places but if you enjoy the countryside, as we do, some parts of France are stunningly beautiful while others can be bleak, flat and windy.

Our advice would be, if you haven't explored already, come and have a thorough look around before choosing where to live. In any case all of the best of luck.
