Flight problems??

jeanmandredeix

I am beginning to think I am destined not to get to Bulgaria.

I have been flexible with airports (Luton, Stansted, Birmingham) but tried three times to book Ryanair and it froze up on both my phone and laptop, then tried Wizz Air and their return flight was a terrible time and the others don’t seem to do flights at certain times.

Have I just picked a bad day?

I haven't done the Bg-UK-Bg route since COVID but at one stage I was actually commuting between Sofia and London with Wizz every day. 😁

The flight times were okay (I was first in the office and left at 17:30) and it was cheaper than paying for a London hotel. I found Wizz to be pretty good all things considered, even the time that Luton flights were grounded due to a mere sprinkling of snow and my M&S frozen turkey was slowly defrosting inside my suitcase...

Have you tried another site like https://www.skyscanner.net ?

@jeanmandredeix

You're getting discouraged too easily! :-)

I often fly with Wizzair and Ryanair, and have no problems whether using my phone (mobile app) or web with my laptop. The Stansted-Plovdiv option is especially convenient for me. But, yes, the cheap flights folks often have unsociable arrival/departure times and don't fly every day. If you want a more civilized experience you can pay more for a different carrier (I personally search on Kayak and buy on Expedia for these).

The Wizz website and app does frequently seem to have problems, unfortunately, though I use them because no one else flies from Luton to Varna.

Flights tend to be seasonal, more over summer to Varna and Burgas, and probably more over winter to Plovdiv. I would have thought Sofia flights would have less seasonal variation, but the times aren't always super convenient. Can you book separate one way flights with different airlines to get a better choice of times? I've done this with Varna flights, flown out from Gatwick and back to Luton.

@janemulberry

Yep a lot of the airlines seem to be very seasonal especially the no frilles airline's. They cater for when most people want to travel, which you can't blame them.

It's the same when traveling to the Alps during the winter season. They are discontinued during the summer when the skiing season is over.

@SimCityAT

Yes. Gave me mostly non direct flights which I didn’t want.

@gwynj

Flight times weren’t a problem but I completed right up to the last section of payment and it would not allow me to select the country, so could go no further, then I tried on laptop with same problem . Anyway, gave up on Sunday, done it on Monday and it’s booked 😃

I hope you are glad you persisted! Let the Bulgarian adventure begin!

@jeanmandredeix - 👍👍👍 You did it, well done. Can relate to the issues you had. EasyJet fully booked until may, then Ryanair site and app being awkward freezing out . I had 1 week before due to travel and no tickets.

Seems for Ryanair, booking late at night when there servers are less busy was the fix.  I was printing tickets at like 12:45 in the wee hours 🤣
