Renunciation and Surrender Certificate (Indian to Belgian)

Hi all,

I recently acquired Belgian citizenship and I’m now trying to complete the formalities related to my Indian citizenship to get OCI.

I’m a bit confused about the process:

Do I need to apply separately for Renunciation of Indian Citizenship and Surrender Certificate, or

Is the surrender of the passport included as part of the renunciation process?

I will be applying through the Embassy of India Brussels, so if anyone has gone through the process in Belgium recently, your guidance would be really helpful.

Also, if someone has already applied for OCI / e-OCI after this, did you need any additional documents apart from the renunciation certificate?

Thanks in advance!

To obtain an OCI card after acquiring Belgian citizenship, you must first complete the formalities for your Indian citizenship. The "Surrender Certificate" and "Renunciation Certificate" are effectively part of the same mandatory process for former Indian nationals.

Thanks for reply,

But, Actualy my question was

Do I need to apply separately for Renunciation of Indian Citizenship and a Surrender Certificate, or is surrendering the passport included as part of the renunciation process?

In Belgium, based on the https://indianembassybrussels.gov.in/passport.php

page, they ask to fill two forms, but there are no separate options to book appointments at the embassy to submit these forms.
