Registration documents for spouse (family reunification)

Cansu Demir

Dear All,

I hope you are well.

I will be arriving in Belgium on 6 February under a Single Permit, and I have signed a 6-month sublet agreement. The rental contract is in my name only.

My spouse has already obtained his family reunification visa to join me in Belgium.

The reason why my spouse’s name does not appear on the sublet agreement is that the apartment is subject to capacity and surface regulations, and the landlord requested that the contract be issued in one name only.

Due to the nature of my spouse’s profession, his physical presence in Belgium will be limited, and his stay is primarily required for administrative purposes, in particular for address declaration and collection of the residence card under family reunification. Our main residence will nevertheless be declared at the same address.

In this context, I would like to kindly ask for clarification on the following point:

When my spouse goes to the Ixelles municipality to declare his address and collect his residence card,

– is my rental contract sufficient, given that we are married and registered at the same address?

Thank you very much in advance for your guidance.

Kind regards,

CD
