Approved private health insurance / Krankenversicherung in Austria?

Icebird

To be allowed to stay in Austria without a job one needs enough savings and in addition a comprehensive health insurance (umfassenden Krankenversicherungsschutz). Is there a list of approved private health insurances? According to oesterreich.gov.at, self-insurance through the public Krankenversicherung costs 454 euro per month, which strikes me as unreasonably expensive (correct me if I'm wrong).
