Women’s health and support systems in Austria

Hello everyone,

Living in Austria often means navigating a new healthcare system and social norms, particularly around women’s health. From finding the right medical support to understanding what’s openly discussed or not, experiences can vary widely.

We would love to hear how things work in Austria, what’s been easy or challenging, and what you wish you’d known sooner:

How easy is it to find dedicated medical support for women’s health in Austria: gynecology, pregnancy and childbirth, menopause, mental health, reproductive health, etc.?

Are there support groups, communities, or informal networks for expat women in your area?

How are women’s health topics perceived locally? Are people open to discussing them, or do you notice taboos or stigma?

What services, professionals, organizations, or resources have been the most helpful to you?

What surprised you the most in how women’s health issues are treated, talked about, or prioritized in Austria?

Share your insights to help fellow expats and soon-to-be expats.

Thanks,

Cheryl

Good topic @Cheryl, but maybe you should have included males as well, so we males weren't left out? wink.png

Hello Cheryl and the Expat.com team,

Thank you for reaching out and initiating this important discussion!

At the moment, I am not living in Austria yet, as I am currently preparing my relocation project. Therefore, I haven't had first-hand experience with the Austrian healthcare system or local women's support groups.

However, these are essential topics, and I will be following the responses from other community members very closely to help me prepare for my future move.

Best regards,

Rina

Hey Simon,

Thank you for that!

Please feel free to adapt the question to a male situation when answering as well. We would be more than happy to hear your input on that too.

Cheers,

Cheryl
