Freelance and Visa and Work Permit

Hello.
I'm from the US looking to move to Hanoi, hopefully permanently.
I am 52, single and voluntarily retired. I'm not collecting a pension or social security.
I would like to work freelance and my income would not be sourced from Vietnam.
I have savings and investments to prove up any necessary funds.
Can I work remotely and live long term without leaving the country every 6 months or so?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Steph

Hi Steph,

Welcome to Expat.com :)

First of all, i would advise you to have a look at the articles in the Vietnam guide > Work in Vietnam section.
You may find some useful information.

Thank you,

At this point in time, most expats are on a one-year business visa that is arranged with the help of a visa agent. In my experience, it is possible to get another one without leaving the country, but this year the price to so went up.

As a result, I flew to Pakse in southern Laos where I spent a couple of weeks relaxing and working, as I also do freelance work on the computer.
Thank you.  I will.
Thank you both for response.  That helps.
Hello,

Are either of you still working freelance in Vietnam?

I also work freelance and my income is sourced only from the United Kingdom.

I'm trying to understand if I need to open a company or not via these lawyers you find online, as it seems pretty expensive.

It'd be good to know if you both need to pay tax, or if you have ever had any issues?
