Road safety in the Philippines

Motorcycles on the national highway driving the wrongway in the slow lane.

Twlk123  said. . . . No lights, I don't understand why they do this and crawling along in the fast lane too!

Philippine drivers have learned their driving etiquette by observation, they see everyone else doing it, so it must be Ok.

With the lack of police enforcement and drivers education in the schools.

Take into consideration Philippine population just started enjoying car ownership very recently while USA had this since the 60's. So maturity of drivers in the Philippines is still at infancy. It is amazing drivers when at BGC become 'proper' then returns to aggressive outside BGC.

Last June been driving a rental Vios around Mindanao for a month. Never been asked to present my DL. The thing is I'd forgotten it at home in the wallet with bank cards.

I remembered the wallet 5 minutes after boarding the train in my home city. Decided not to cancel the trip bcz of it. Please don't repeat.

Please don't repeat? Why would anyone do that? Hey if you can get by traveling without bank cards because you took cash presumably not carried in your wallet, more power to you. You didn't forget your passport.  In my case as long as I have my phone and an internet connection I can get money just about anywhere here. No DL? And they rented you a VIOS without showing a D?. Cool. In my experience, as a foreigner I have never been asked to show my DL while driving and I wouldn't be too concerned. The worse they could do is take your car and your rental company would need to claim it. Don't worry, I won't mention that you might forget your head if it wasn't screwed on 😆 (couldn't resist lol)
