Looking for advise for most effective remote internet device?

seluzmeu

Hello all,

I've been a lurker here and I'm shy about posting anything.  Here we go, Can call me Lhanie.  I recently retired and planning on staying in the Philippines.  My past visits there when in Pangasinan, traveling around.. I have issues getting internet access, I like streaming movies or playing games online, if there's weak wifi access, my data ran out so quickly, is there a portable device I can buy for such instances? Thanks a bunch.  :)

Welcome to the forum Lhanie, enjoy.

Plenty of threads here regarding your ask but for us here north of Pangasinan had good success with Globe at home for a couple of years and then they dropped the ball so for 4 years we have had PLDT/Smart wireless home internet and been pretty good to date, you can unplug it and take it to a different location and also has been fine but like all wireless routers/phones depends on your providers coverage.

We are on an unlimited plan and at times have 4 to 6 people surfing on different devices with no speed problems or buffering watching Netflix/Youtube etc.

Not expensive and I think around P 1,200 per month and pay with Gcash, so far it works.

Good luck.

Cheers, Steve.

Hi,

we use the Smart Unlimited internet 5G from Smart in my cellphone. This is 999 PHP per month now. It works fine here in Boracay.

I'm curious, has anyone in PI tryed Starlink? My buddy says it's the one to get stateside, it's via satellite, so I'm iffy on it, because if a cellphone has issues, so will satellite. I plan on visiting once I get my affairs in order.

From time to time internet service providers drop the ball. What's worse, very poor customer service.

I'm now on my third provider:

Provider #1 PLDT lost internet service for three weeks, customer service even lied, then I switched over to #2

Provider #2 Sky, service was good for years and then lost service for two weeks. With each call I always received the same answer, it will be restored by 2 pm.

I'm now on Converge provider #3. My typical speed is 350 mbps.

I too am curious if anybody has used starlynk there.  A friend from Davao told me, it is available  but very expensive.  He did not know anyone that uses them.  sad face.

My neighbor installed Starlink as a backup. He said it works very well.
