My wife and I are thinking of renting a condo in the Ocean Dream complex but they told me that they do not have beach chairs and we like to spend the day on the beach. Is there a chair rental service of some sort to solve this problem for us?
Thanks for any input.

Hello and welcome. My wife and I have been to Cabarete several times and we stay at places not along the beach. There are (were) plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas available for a daily price, especially long in front of the many great restaurants. Some places, if eating, no charge. But if memory serves, I believe 800 to 1500 pesos for the day. Sorry, been a while and we only did it once as there is plenty of eartery tables near the water so we mainly went to them, had a drink or two, swam, ate, swam etc...and enjoyed the music...not sure what it will be like post COVID -19. Prices may be higher or even lower due to the loss of revenue in recent months....and if there are fewer beach goers, you're likely able to offer them lower if you feel the cost is too high.....works sometimes.....

Is that price to rent a chair for the day?   If so that's not correct.

Chairs, if available, will be 100 to 200 pesos a day.  Post Covid, not sure.

Apologies - in speaking with my wife, the rental we had was at the smaller public beach in Sosua and yes the price was cheaper than I mentioned - 300 for two chairs and umbrella. As mentioned, used beach chairs along restaurant  area in Cabarete no charge except we made sure we ordered drinks......then moved up to tables to eat, then back to chairs.....

They have them in Cabarete central.  You may be able to convince one of them to bring some up for the right $.

Hello...can you clarify this response please? Do you mean in the center of town you can get someone (for a price)to give you a chair?  Can you purchases chairs anywhere, stores? We are planning to stay for 6 weeks...gotta have a beach chair! Thanks

LynneO

Did you have any luck on beach chairs? We too gotta have beach chairs in front of the complex so you can go back and forth with ease.  Im quite surprised this is not the case.  I wonder if they can be purchased anywhere near by? Maybe in Sosua?

They were referring to public beach rental chairs.  If you eat and drink at the restaurant you can often use the chairs. Otherwise you rent a lounger for the day for a couple dollars.

Where you are staying may have loungers as well.

Some of the complexes have chairs and some do not.  Seawinds Condos does have some and they are free to residents.
Apparently Ocean Dream doesn’t.  There is a chance you could touch base with one of the chair vendors in Cabarete to provide some during your stay.  This town is full of hustle, and for the right price, who knows.

I’ve never seen them for sale in country. You might consider bringing a couple of Tommy Bahama chairs and umbrella.  They’re available on Amazon and relatively inexpensive.

You can buy beach chairs at. Most of the larger stores.  Playero has some.

As to quality and price.... Who knows!

Thanks for more info...thought of bringing our own chairs but wasn't sure how they get transported...yes, I'm not surprised there is a lot of "hustle"...experienced that in Las Terrenas as well...we were hoping to hook up with chairs for the entire time and drag them back to the condo each day, which I suppose we can do...I just wonder if we should just bring our own....if we can purchase some there, all the better but will the price be outrageous...we dont need big lounge chairs, just what we see typically on the beach in the US....dilemma as to what to do but we gotta have them...what is your suggestion if it was you? Thanks so much!

You can easily and reasonably buy regular beach chairs.
Or
Make a deal for the duration with the guys who rent chairs.  Settle on a price for the week. Pay half up front and half when done! They will haul em back and forth for you.

Fantastic! Can't thank you enough...ready to book!

How much

Rent beach chairs from the guys on the beach.  Chairs,  umbrellas, little side tables.  They have it all. And if you rent in front of a restaurant the restaurant will provide food and beverage services. And as a bonus, they let you use their bathroom.

I had the exact same question when I came to stay- I don't mind carrying my beach chair back and forth and sometimes want to stay at the beach for just a bit- so renting each time didn't make sense. The other thing is that if you are staying in Ocean One or Ocean Dream you are a little walk to the rental chairs etc.

I ended up flying my chairs (US style) in a big duffle bag. They made it ok but I wasn't so sure they'd arrive undamaged.. so you might be taking a chance. On American it cost me about 40$ to check that bag. Once I had time to poke around more in the area I did see beach chairs for sale at various places but none as nice as my good sturdy ones (backpack style) that I had brought. Also if you don't have a car it will be difficult to poke around to find them. I think I saw them at the Pappaterra in Sosua and then yes, also in Puerto Plata at the big stores (either Jumbo or La Sirena) but you would have to figure out how to get there and back.

It is great to support the local people working hard on the beach so if you can rent chairs it's a good thing to do- and comfy-and plenty of people to wait on you etc. -but if you want to have your chair for a shorter visit to the beach or want to go to a quieter area, it's great to have your own!

Good luck!
