Hi, my daughter, British, is at uni in the Netherlands. Her UK passport is due for renewal and I believe she will have to return her old passport and the new one could take up to 4 weeks to issue! I understand it is compulsory to carry ID in the Netherlands and she doesn't have any other official ID such as driving licence. Does anyone know if there anything she can do? She doesn't want to risk being fined, obviously.

You are correct in that ID is compulsory in the Netherlands; this link will take you to the Dutch Government website that has the details, plus a link to what are suitable alternatives.
