[Jeddah] Which used sedan/Crossover/ SUV to go for?

Post new topic

Dr.AsadAliShah

Hi everyone,
I’m Dr. Asad, married and a family of four and I’m expecting to move to Jeddah in Jan 2020. The first thing comes to mind when moving to a new place is to buy a car. In Pakistan I own a Corolla Altis 1.8 so I’m comfortable with Toyota but I’m willing to experiment based on the suggestions of the community. From what I have researched I have come to the following conclusions

- An Expat cannot buy a SUV if his family size is less than 5
- Toyota has great resale value and is the company to go for
- Buy a car which is common and whose parts are easily available
- Car safety is very important

Based on above, I would like to ask the following

- Can one ask permission for SUV considering my parents will be coming to KSA regularly?
- Should I buy a used car first and opt for brand new after a few years?
- Is car installment an option for new expats?
- Which car to go for that has good resale value, is durable and has good car safety
- My budget is around SAR 60,000 for used car

Looking forward to your comments.

Salam Dr. Asad,
Welcome to KSA. Hope Allah make things easy for you. Do you know you have to pay dependent fee of SR. 300-400 per month for per family member in KSA? Pls calculate this when coming.

- Can one ask permission for SUV considering my parents will be coming to KSA regularly? - this topic is covered previously and it is possible
- Should I buy a used car first and opt for brand new after a few years? - if you find a very good used car then go for it
- Is car installment an option for new expats? - yes it is available through banks or financing companies but their margin is really high. Depending on the car type and installment plan you will pay upto SR. 1,300 per month for 4-5 years plan.
- Which car to go for that has good resale value, is durable and has good car safety -
- My budget is around SAR 60,000 for used car - good budget to get a car of 2016 model but it really depends on brand. if it is toyota then you can go for Rav4 2015-2016 or maybe 2017

Before you decide to go for installment plan, which seems easy solution, pls note you will have to sell your car before going for final exit. That means if you didnt complete the program you will have to find a buyer or return the car to bank (regardless of how many years you paid to them).
