If we started really early in the day, is it possible to drive from Sosua to Samana, catch some whale action, and drive back to Sosua all in one day? Without driving in the dark? Mid January timeframe.

Bob K

Yes you can do it but mid January the whales will not have arrived yet except for a few "early birds"

I agree with Bob. You are likely to be disappointed.

And it will be tight to get back before dark.

About a 2 1/2 hr drive  to Samana from Sosua... could be 3 depending

with an early start you might make it.

WW you drive quick!

Starting a 6.00 am you would be in time for many of the boats leaving the dock in Samana at about 9.00/9.30. You need to be there early for the best boats.

Avoid the stop off at Cayo Levantado (tourist trap) and you are back at the port before 1.00 and so can take a leisurely drive back to Sosua with maybe a stop off en route for lunch.

Very doable in a day imo.

Well if you dont want to drive in the dark, honey its still dark at  6am right now!.

Yikes.

haha
not so fast there Cowboy/Girl

I figure this....
I know 1.5 hrs from Cabrera to Samana is plenty...90 minutes
POP airport is 80-85 minutes from Cabrera... past Sosua

Sooo., 170-180 minutes --- say I -- maximum 3 hrs and likely less
