Sending and receiving packages in Poland

Hello,

As an expat, there are inevitably certain items you might want or need from back home, and around the holiday period, many people like to send gift packages.

How easy is it to send and receive packages in Poland?

Is the public postal system efficient?

Do people tend to prefer using private shipping services? Which ones?

How do the costs of the private shipping services compare?

How long does it take generally to receive packages from abroad in Poland?

Do you have to pay taxes on items received by mail from abroad?

Are packages delivered right to your doorstep, or do you usually have to go collect them somewhere?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Priscilla

My mother stands me packages 2 times a year. June and December. Packages are about 65 pounds in weight, usually home depot size medium and a small box to space out the weight. Most times the shipping takes about 5 weeks.  She uses regular US shipping  from AZ to NJ. where the box get loaded on a container ship from there. The Company she uses is Roxolana.
Looking at an invoice from this year she paid $.99 a lb. 5.00 UPS, 5.00 insurance,  and delivery of 15.00, total for 55lbs 79.45.
We get tracking numbers and eagerly wait for every package.
