How to bring your car to New Zealand

Hello everybody,

If you exported your car to New Zealand, were there any formalities that needed to be completed beforehand? What were they?

What is the best way to export your car? Is there a limit on the number of vehicles, or perhaps the age of the vehicle? Are there limits on emissions or emission controls in New Zealand?

What are the expected costs of exporting a car? In your opinion, is it worth it?

Once you arrived in New Zealand, what were the applicable taxes? What was the customs process like?

How do you go about registering an imported car in New Zealand?

Is it best to buy a car once you have arrived or to bring your car with you, in your opinion?

We look forward to hearing from you!

Definitely a bad idea unless the car is a vintage or classic and worth at least 30000$ also it must be free from previous accident repairs which are not recognized in NZ.

I know smb who broght an old russian car to the USA. It had no value - the owner just loved it

I brought my pride and joy with me it had been in accident 25 yrs ago and in daily use since.Had to get it checked by certifier on arrival and they decided its scrap after 12000$ loss to me.
