I'm am 26, and about to move to Bahrain so my fiancé and i can be together till he's done with work. I'm wondering how I should expect to be treated as a woman in Bahrain. Would my diverse hair style and un natural color prevent me from working, is it safe for woman to walk about and not be bothered for being alone? Oh gosh so many questions, I'll start with these for now, thank you every one.

Thanks a bunch

Christine

Hi Danatobemogeem, welcome on Expat-blog! :)

I hope other members will share their expat experience with you very soon.

All the best,
Christine

Bahrain is totally safe to walk around for a woman, or anyone. Of course, it won't be safe walking around soon because the heat is coming!! :( But not to worry, being a slightly leftfield type character is not an issue here..just don't get too active on the 'trying to be different' thing, it's infact one of the tenants of Islam. I hope you'll find the Bahraini's as friendly and generous as I have!

But just get used to the staring, you hear their voices move after you as you walk passed. Tell them you'll poke their eyes out and they generally stop.

I've walked around with 'satanic' symbols on my tshirt and have had 0 problems, so a few hair extensions, etc should not be a problem. As long as you don't start a problem, there is no problem.
