Administration fee paid to Inland revenue for paperwork.

Hello everyone!

I am looking to move to Malta in the next year or so from Spain. There are several programmes you can choose to apply to become a resident. I am a pensioner and also I am self employed. In the requirements to apply, there is an administation fee of 2,500 euros that needs to be paid to the Inland Revenue. This fee is very steep in my opinión. When we came to Spain from the UK, Spain had a similar fee that had to be paid, but you could bypass this fee if you did all the running around or a local helped you through the ropes and prepared your own papers and submitted them. Is that posible in Malta to do to bypass the fee? I would appreciate some feedback if posible. Thanks!

If you are an EU citizen then there is no fee to pay and not sure what you mean regarding paperwork to submit for tax.
You request a tax form  or go to the tax office and they will help you fill it in.

You should register for the new EID card and again its fairly simple and (as far as I can remember) free.

Plenty of information on this forum on what forms you need, depending on age and circumstances.

No fee charged for first time registering as a resident and obtaining eResidence card but you may be charged if you later change address, we weren't charged but friends of ours were charged 22 euros in Gozo for that. I know of someone in Malta who did theirs last week and were not charged!

All details are in this link:- https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=370643. One slight change to the info. in this link is that they now take the photos apparently, this is according to an earlier post by Rob.

are you an EU citizen ? in which case no fees involved, unless you are using a 3rd party to help with the paperwork. However, as an EU citizen, the paperwork is simple, and by the way, you are not applying for residence, you are informing them you consider yourself resident :-)

Hi rob,

what documents did you submit to change your address? Anything apart from proof of the new address like rental agreement ?
