Here are some tips for landing your first job in Canada:

1) Assuming you have a Confirmation of Permanent Residency and recently landed, make sure you apply for your SIN (Social Insurance Number). With that, you can immediately register with jobbank.gc.ca website and use that to post your resume or look for jobs. Note: you can't register for jobbank id without a SIN that starts with the #1

2) Also create your online presence in LinkedIn and join relevant groups related to your field and if possible specific to the region. e.g. Ottawa Retail Industry group etc. etc.

3) Create user for the following online jobs portal, monster.ca, workopolis.ca, careerbeacon.ca and post/create your resume there.

4) Also do not discount recruitment agencies such as randstad, kelly services etc.

5) Join networking programs and get to know people. Subscribe to some of these agencies' newsletter to be updated with the latest events. Take for example GreaterHalifax Partnership. Find the equivalent in other cities too.

6) Do not give up easily. Finding a job is a JOB!

To know what each sector or industry looks like and in which particular region, go again to jobbank.gc.ca and click on the "Explore Careers" tab. Play around with that section to know and learn more about your field of interest.
