Refusal to accept currency

My favourite bar wouldn't accept my Lira Maltese I offered to pay with today. In fact my favourite person there told me that she had never seen Lira notes before :)

James

Not at all surprising since the Euro relaced the Malta lira a in 2008 and in most other Eurozone countries long before that.

You certainly wouldn't get any different a reception in the United States if you tried to pay your bar tab with Confederate States of America dollars instead of the good old US "greenbacks". Nor would it be any different if you were to try using a Roman coin (once common in what is now Great Britain).

If you accepted these banknotes that haven't been in circulation in Malta for the last four years that's not somebody else's problem. I use the term "banknotes" since that's exactly what they are, they are not "currency" which derives from the word current and indicates that they are actually legal tender and in use presently.

Not to be taken seriously! That was just a joke, a poor attempt perhaps  She thought it was a laugh though :)

Ok, now I get you.....

Well, when the Brazilian bars start taking Cruzeiros again I'll let you know and we can all go out on a binge on me. Still tons of them floating around and I can't figure out why, the paper they're printed on has more value for recycling than they were ever worth as currency. LOL

Go figure!
