Any one living in hurghada?

Great, that's good of you. Yeah and I will reciprocate too. I look forward to it too. You made me smile today :) Take care hun and all the best with the purchase in Bute!

Sadly, they have all passed away now. It was some time back and they were not that young! I had an English white called Toota,, aNorwegian forest called Squishy and a grey Persian called Jelly. Egyptair was the only carrier that would take them LHR to Cairo and then on to Hurghada. Takes a bit of paperwork but I can talk you through that and save you quite a bit of cash. Companies charge silly amounts to do it for you.

Thanks, all is going well in Scotland but I can't wait to get back to my home in Hurghada. Tim

Hi littleenglishmiss.  I think we spoke about taking our dogs to Egypt!  I had read a great deal of negatives , therefore decided to leave my little poodle with my son.  I handed him over lon Sunday and have been absolutely distraught since, so have decided to take him and am now looking into how I get him over.

Sandra

Sandra, I can send you details of how I took my cats over. It may help. Tim

Hi Tim.  That would be fantastic.. I really don't know what to make of the horror stories I have read about.  I will be honest, I am concerned.  If I honestly thought  he was in danger  I would leave him and and get a grip lol.

Sandra

All three of my cats arrived absolutely fine and no worse for it at all. I will send you a private message once I have found the info I need. Tim

Hi Tim, well that!s a relief.. Thank you

Sandra

To get the pet passport from the Uk to allow your dog to travle will take a couple of months.
Firstly is the  microchipping.
As they have to be tested then have the rabies and other vaccines before they will issue the per passport.

If you go to a good vets they will either tell you what you need to know or go on the DEFRA site they have all the info.

The problem is if (heaven forbid) things went a bit pearshaped in EGypt and you wanted to go home - finding a reputable vet t do the necessaries with is dificult.

There are many horror tories here (from friends I know personally - so it isn't someone who knows someone who knows someone) and they are terrible - they have posted of their experiences online in blogs.

A pet passport is useless for uk to Egypt and not required since they are not in the EU or on the list of approved countries to return from. Once you take your pet to Egypt either it stays there or it must go through quarantine procedures when it returns.

Hi Biffy.. I have done all the things you have talked about, it was whilst researching the transportation side of it that I read the horror stories and decided to leave him behind with my son that also has a toy poodle.  But when handing him over and then leaving I have been so upset since I have decided to do my best to take him with me.

I am finding the transportation side of it daunting.. But that is talking to a pet  travel agency.  I think though they are over exaggerating the legalities a little.... Money, of course.

Thanks anyway Biffy

Sandra, it is very simple and just takes a little time. First of all call DEFRA explaining what you want to do. They are very helpful and will tell you what you need to know. I did not use a company, I did it myself.
DEFRA will ask for your vets details to see if the are on the authorised list and they will send them the forms they need direct.

You just get your pooch vaccinated as required and the vet needs to sign a certificate of fitness within a certain time period before travel. You then need to get these stamped on behalf of DEFRA at the Milton Keynes office. Then attend the Egyptian Embassy in London with that paperwork and pay the import duty. They issue you with all the paperwork you need.

Egypt air are the only carriers that will take animals on a flight of this length. BA or BMI will not entertain it.
Call Egyptair to make your reservation with your pet and they will charge you the necessary fee,

Simply turn up at Heathrow check in with the paperwork and your pooch and you will stay together for as long as possible before they take your pet to be loaded onto the plane.

Best to have an old jumper or the like of yours for your dog to lie on. Little bowls of food and water. My 3 cats arrived absolutely fine in Hurghada as if nothing had happened.

If you need any further info just let me know.

Oh and just be aware that the locals will probably try to make you pay again for its entry and pocket the money!

Hope that helps, Tim

Thanks Tim.  I live in the West Midlands!  Do I have to go personally to London etc or could it all be done via Royal Mail?

I also heard that one where once in Egypt they try to charge money again for entry.. Do I pay? And do they have a fixed price if not what is accaptable

No problem Sandra, I was living in Devon at the time and because it all needs to be done within a certain period of time before travel I went in person. i put the cats in a lcattery in London.and had the cats seen locally by an approved vet. I can't remember exactly which way around I did it but I went to the embassy on one day and out to Milton Keynes the next to get the necessary stamps. Egyptian Embassy have a set charge and you pay for the stamps on the paperwork I can't remember exactly how much it was. About £35 per animal I think and about the same for Defra. It all has to be done just before you go, so it is a little bit of a paperchase but that is what these companies want to charge £100s of pounds for. If you have the time, I would do it yourself.

Oh and you do not have to pay anything on arrival in Egypt. That is what you paid at the embassy for!

Tim

Hi Tim.  thank you so much.  You have been a big help.  I am getting onto it immediatlely.

kindest regards
sandra

Hi all
Been following your stream hoping for good results for meesenglish and Sandra and what stars Tim and PeterEgypt are! Had been in touch with Peter after reading his blog. I'm a Brit who fell in love with Egypt (Cairo & Alex) many years ago and married an Egyptian - 3years ago - that  I met then. I spend loads of time in London but love to be with my hubbie on our boat in Hurghada. If I'm there when you all meet up would be great to join you!
Good luck.

Hey littleenglishmiss,

Everyone that gave his or her opinion, had a situation that he or she built their opinion.
However, most of scams happen with old foreign ladies trying to get with young Egyptian boys. It's obvious, why they get scammed! yes they get love for money. Old lady gets young boy's love and the boy gets what he wants, money. Yes men never ever would love older lady, they get with older lady to make some money, so they can get the young girl.

Mostly Hurgharda is one of the best places to get such a peace of mind property in a warm weather, nice beaches and all for fraction of the price anywhere else.

Don't misunderstand me, i used to live in Canada and i came here about 6 years ago and once i had enough money i came back and bought a property and i have been living here ever since.
Just be smart, like you would be anywhere else in the world.

Most people that get scammed, are those ladies that are looking for young boys. Other than that, you could easily fool Egyptians, as they are kind hearted and love to help foreigners. Of course every nation has it's own scammers and they are very easy to spot in Egypt. They don't look decent, they are fealty, no job, no life. What do you expect out of that? Of course that guy would love to make any money and run away, but you picked the guy over millions of decent people, so it's your fault if you do!

I won't promis to help you, but i would chat with you, if i like you a might help.
