Ok,
I'm going out of my mind for real!
Yesterday, I had a meeting at one of the country's biggest companies. As I usually, I call 1 hour before I move to confirm the meeting not to waste my time. (And yes it did happen that someone "forgot") So I call the office as I hate calling people on their mobiles, and after 4 times of no one picking up I give up. When I arrive to the office, I find two dudes (Which I still can't get used to seeing dudes receptionists btw) browsing the newspaper!!! Apparently too busy to answer the phone!

2)
I decide to have a pizza, call the very well known place, after almost 10 rings the dude decides to pick up with a hold on sir, makes me wait for 1 minute and then asks me what's up:

Me: Hiya, I would like to place an order.
Dude: Sure, where you at?
Me: Gives address which is a 10 minutes drive.
Dude: Hmm sure, but I have no driver now, give me your number and I will miss call you once I have one available(?)
Me: Ahm sure, there you go.

15 minutes later I decided not to wait anymore so I call up the rival franchise, which to be honest was impressive evethough I was told that my pizza will be delivered in an hour (yup!)

10 minutes later, I got a missed call, called them up and it turns out to be the second shop asking me for my address in full details.

Still no call from the first franchise....

Gotta love the dedication to service :)

It happens quite often with most of us and yes,it is irritating but i am fine until i am not starving. My hubby gets pissed off most of the time though i always give him valid reasons for the late arrivals.
I only get sad when i order my Mcdonald and my fries get cold:(i love hose yummy fries:D

but still patience make ya a happy man.I know my words r not somthing u wanted to read but still i felt like writing:)

^ You ORDER from McDonald's?  I have never understood that concept.  Maybe I am just old.

The lack of attention to customer service can largely be laid down to the fact that the workers are generally foreign, get paid a pittance and are often treated poorly so they don't give a rat's rump if you get good service.

It isn't their business, why should they care?  You are a just another foreigner.

If you want good service from them, visit the place first.  Shake hands with everyone, call them by their names (which you'll see on their name tags).  Explain that you will be ordering from them and wanted to meet them.  Tell them where you live.

Schmoozing is the greatest tool in the world here.  It results in great service, great deals and often superb discounts.  I have watched two colleagues here, one in Riyadh who speaks no Arabic and one here in Jubail who speaks perfect Arabic, do this.

We have never failed to get the absolute best service it is possible for them to deliver.

i agree with u entirely ...i hate those customers who get rude to waiters or with the service provider staff.i have noticed if u talk them nicely with a smile ,they would always give u extra attention and better service.
i have friends who r always rude to servants and waiters,i feel terrible on their act which does create arguments among us but i guess they dun want to change and and and about Mcdonald;sometimes i dun f3l like changing or put abaya on me so  i order:D

I absolutely agree with MisterStretch.  Simply by being pleasant to the CSR at my bank, he waves me into the office when he sees me (no que)-- offers me tea -- and waives all fees when I send money back to the USA.

When he mentioned to me he has problems writing in English, I made it a point bring him some alphabet writing worksheets and practice materials the next time I had business at the bank.

Definitely here it's very important to establish personal relationships with people who--in the States--we would just be expecting to 'do their jobs.'
