New Maltese passports are all biometric and are issued by the Passport Office in Malta. Hence applicants must submit their application in person at the High Commission in London where their biometric data (photograph, fingerprints and signature) is captured electronically and subsequently transmitted to the Passport Office in Malta for processing. Please call 020 7292 4807 or email passports.london@gov.mt to make an appointment to submit an application. Appointments are scheduled Monday to Friday during the opening hours of the High Commission.

Question, do you need a Maltese Passport as you are married to a British Person?

As to your question...mmmmm
I am not married yet and my UK passport runs out before the wedding. Long story but prior to being issued with this passport, I had been notified  as a result of my applying for a Brit pp that I was a Maltese Citizen and not British as first thought and attempts were actually made to deport me LOL
However that was resolved after a long battle as I was actually married to a Brit at the time and my battle was won due to the intervention of a local MP. However I was told that if my pp ran out and I was no longer married  and I had to carry my pp everywhere which is ridiculous  I could still get deported.
Which to be honest if it was not for my Fiancé I would say get on with it. LOL
As I am going to return to Malta anyway I thought it would be a good time to get my pp and ID card and then I could use that instead of the uk one or better still have both as my Aunties do.

Hi kathy,

you should make sure that you have valid travel documents when you travel.

The UK is not part of the Schengen area so an expired passport could cause problems leaving the UK or entering the Schengen area.

Once you have your Maltese passport and are resident in Malta you can apply for a Maltese ID card in Valletta.

Hi Kathy,
I have just applied for my Maltese passport. I had to go into their office and fill out a citizenship form and provide birth certificates for myself and my parents, marriage and divorce certificates for my parents (marriage and divorce certificates for yourself if this applies) and proof of 6 consecutive years living outside Malta. I was advised the process would take 1 month. It was fairly straight forward and the staff were helpful and friendly. I was born here, but my parents are British. Hi Eva,
Yes we have already done the citizenship route and I already have all the documents. I went to Valletta last time and too be honest was just so pleased to have my citizenship sorted once and for all, never thought about the pp.
Anyway cutting long story short was told I just needed to go and get one now. So plans were made and cancelled. And so now was hoping to go through the Internet or post. But I think I might have to dothe London route as suggested above.
